Starting on the the 4th Mustang build of our 5 real Mustangs currently in our family. My daughters 1966 Mustang Coupe she affectionately named Tony, for Anthony Leedo “Lee” Iacocca. I am once again kit bashing an AMT 1966 coupe kit from the early 2000s and another AMT 1967 Mustang GT Fastback. Again it will likely be 75% from the 1967 Kit, the chassis and suspension from that kit is great and far better than the old 1966 AMT kits that really show their promo roots.

I’ll be watching this one! The 67 GT provides so much better detail for other lesser kits.

My 1966 GT fastback build also used mostly 1967 Mustang kit for most parts, chassis, engine, interior panels, etc.

Planning on doing almost this same thing, mostly.  Looked through your last build and it was great!  Will be following this one closely.

Curious how different the 66 engine compartment is to the 67.  Based on your work I assume you can't just put the 67 chassis under the 66 body without the engine compartment swap.

Now THIS is looking pretty dang spiffy so far Donald and I'll be following.

I thought all Mustang engine compartment dimensions and basic layouts were the same from 64-70.

Man I'm gonna be following this one! My dad has a 66 coupe that he got about 10 years ago. I've been wanting to build this kit to look like his but have been trying to figure out how to make it look non-toy-like. I cant wait to see the finished product!

The firewalls are very similar as is the general layout. The washer bag is bigger for 67 so I remove it and scratch build a smaller one. You can see all of the modifications I do in the 66 GT Fastback WIP thread. You could put the 67 Chassis in without the engine compartment, but why? Otherwise, you have to scratch build one. I did scratch build the engine compartment in the 66 convertible build.

My bad.  I just looked at the 66 kit and realized it doesn't have an engine compartment at all.  Now it all makes sense.

Yeah, the 1966 Mustang AMT bodies have great proportions, but they really do show their promo model roots. I end up using at least 75 percent from the 1967 kit or scratch building parts. It will be a very similar build to the 1966 Mustang GT Fastback build I just completed, LEDs and all. I however like the quality of the older coupe kit body than the retooled 1966 Fastback body. That one fought me all the way.

First white glue mock-up to test interior and suspension fit and alignment. The body appears to be tweaked and I will need to potentially heat gun the side to get it to fit properly. The door panel detail is terrible so I will be scratch building some pony door panels. May need to make a second set and revisit/update the convertible interior. :)

Started modifying the interior tub remaining pieces changing the rear interior panels to look more coupe like and added dimension for the door panels. Making this modification to the convertible while I am at it.

This is how much of a difference in the convertible build.  Used styrene sheet to make the additional pieces and beading wire for the trim.

Very nice work on the door panels!!

Oh and if you plan on opening the trunk on this one, those alignment posts are a pain.

I went through this on the convertible, they have already been removed in preparation to making the trunk open.

A little more fabrication and modification. I have many of the major components prepared for final prep for paint except the body, that I haven’t gotten to yet. Interior panels modified, drilled out dash for gauge lights, created rally pac and gauge light enclosure. Chassis brake brackets created. Started working creating exhaust from aluminum tubing. Engine assembled for paint, drilled for distributor, plugs and heater hoses. Created power steering pump and bracket. Fabricated dual pulley system. Resin air cleaner. 3D printed C4 automatic transmission. Engine compartment detailing done.

Body modifications completed. Next on to creating the LED wiring harness and then priming, sanding and prepping for paint.

Started on the final white glue mock up before paint, got to this point and paused to create wiring. Need to make sure all of the fabricated and modified parts fit together as wanted as a whole. Also, created the wiring LED wiring harness. Up on switch for headlights/ taillights / gauge lights, down for interior lights. Battery will be covered with the tire cover laying at the side as my other early mustang builds.
