KurtJ Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 Happy New Years! I have just received the Revell 1/24 Aston Martin DB5 kit. I would like to build it as was before Q and his magicians "Bondified" it. Does anyone know if there is a source for an Aston Martin 4L straight engine 6 or something that would act as a base to build one from? It's so crowded under the bonnet that only the top of the engine would be needed. I'm sure there will be a resin one by 2025. I know a 3D grill is in the works already. Thanks for any suggestions' Kurt
Classicgas Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 If you can find one the old Aurora kit has a nice one. 1

Bugatti Fan Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 Kurt. You could scratch build an engine block. As most of the visible detailing would be top end it shouldn't be too difficult to achieve. Have a go using some photographic references. Scratch building is not as daunting as it might at first seem, and an engine might be an ideal introduction to it. The worst you can do is waste a bit of plastic or wood, but probably it will work out alright and you will have developed some new found skills along the way and not be too dependant on after market stuff. If it goes a bit pear shaped, so what? It is only some of your time. I have done 3 scratch builds so far and sometimes I have had to remake stuff that went wrong but what I learnt from it is that it can be done with a bit of perseverance. Before attempting them I built, detailed and converted kits like most of us.
stitchdup Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 you could maybe modify a jag straight 6 to suit. Going purely on the visual of the engine the aston engine is wider but otherwise looks similar to the jag engine. I think if you split the jag engine block and sump lengthwise down the middle you could then add some plastic sheet to fatten it up. another benefit of the jag engine is the carbs and accessorieswill be similar too. I know theres a file for a 3d print of the jag 6 that might work with a little scaling as then you can fatten the valve covers on the printer too
Classicgas Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 If you want to go Les' route I think I have a spare Jaguar 6 you can have for postage. Pm me if interested.
