He’s still an active seller on EBay, but he hasn’t listed anything like that in a long time. He had some custom sleeper frames back then, and I requested him to make a couple for me. The first frame was shorter, and I used it to make the Aeromax RV. The longer one was used for this project. If you message him on EBay, maybe he can help. The prints were rough by today’s standards, requiring a lot of sanding. 3d printing has come a long way since then. Stuff is so much smoother now. Edited January 27 by vincen47

vincen47 Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 (edited) Did a bit more on the project in the last day or two, got the mounts completed on the roof awnings, ready for primer. I used sections cut from Italeri 378 crossmembers for the angle braces. Then I made a new cab/coach entry double pocket door from a couple dollhouse doors in 1/24 scale. Stained to closely match the cab’s wood flooring. Then I did some more sanding and corrections on the coach body, a seemingly never-ending process. I replaced one seam of rivets that didn’t lay down right the first time. The other seams laid down ok, but still needed clean up and light detail sanding. Next up, I’ll start laying the final coats of primer using Mr. Hobby Black 1500. I’ll be able to do a mockup with the cab, hood, body and chassis, all in black primer. I’m excited to see it. It will finally be all black - looking closer to the final product. Edited February 12 by vincen47 2
BK9300 Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Your RV body is coming along great - wonderful repurposing of the doll house doors! Your last two pics really show the detail of your awnings. Its all going to be very impressive in black paint! 1
RoninUtah Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Can’t wait to see it in primer! This is gonna be great! 1
cifenet Posted February 13 Posted February 13 That looks super massive and you are doing some extensive work. That double door is a clever idea as well. 1
Jürgen M. Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Looks fantastic! Maybe I should start a new try! My first one wasn't meant to be! 1

I originally had a sliding shade type of door planned but looking at some of the 1:1 RV conversions, they use hardwood pocket doors. Thought about trying to make them myself, but the 1/2” scale dollhouse stuff was perfect. Ordered two doors, removed the frames and cut the height down a little. Stained and ready to go. In the photo is just sitting there inside the body. I’ll install the door permanently after final paint.

vincen47 Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 (edited) One thing I may have not mentioned yet is that some of the window openings are still a little rough. That’s ok, because the windows themselves are larger than the openings, and will mount flat to the surface surrounding the window, and cover up any minor imperfections in the window casing. The corrugated window shades are set inside to give the window some depth and provide for scale thickness of the RV sidewall. They are the newer “frameless” RV window design. From a modeling perspective, much easier to make than traditional framed RV windows. A bonus for us modeler guys. Here they are on another RV build of mine: I’ll also paint the exisiting window shades white or light grey before the windows are installed, so they are somewhat visible through the deep tinted windows. I’d have it all in primer today, but I ran out of it yesterday. Ordered more. I guess I’ll work on something else in the meantime. Isn’t that the way it goes?
BK9300 Posted February 13 Posted February 13 (edited) That’s a heck of a model, Victor! Beautiful combo, with the cargo trailer, and amazing graphics - awesome job. Edited February 13 by BK9300 1
Rockford Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Excellent work. Windows will look good. You do see these types of window on motorhomes here in UK too. 1
