Oldriginal86 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 I’d like to jump on this. I have a Boyd’s truck that I wasn’t really interested in building so this might be the push I need. Like the idea of no deadline too.

I have been working a bit on the side for the last couple weeks so the model building has kinda slowed down but I've actually just spent a good 20 minutes on my truck. ? iamsuperdan Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 I've been thinking about this build quite a bit... And that's about all I've done! I do have some 3d files ready for printing, so I should probably get going on that. 1

Can-Con Posted June 17, 2024 Author Posted June 17, 2024 Pretty well ready for some clear coat but I do have a couple little decals to apply first. 4
Can-Con Posted June 22, 2024 Author Posted June 22, 2024 Posted just now Had some time to work on this again today. Did up the front suspension. Was missing one of the spindles so I made a matched pair from sprue. Found some of the right size to mount the wheels and cut 2 L shaped pieces. Then cut them to length with the posts that the wheels mount to up against the upper suspension arms. The I used 3 pieces of brass rod to make a simple steering linkage. This also had the added benefit of a slightly lower drop compared to just flipping the kit's spindles. I also ground a divot directly over the rear end pumpkin and did some trimming on the springs and their front mounts to get the rear as low as I was wanting. But I also had to grind some from the insides of the wheel houses to clear those 35 series tires. So, here's the final mockup with the suspension set and the paintwork done except for the final polishing and detailing. 4
iamsuperdan Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 Good news! I started printing some of the parts I'll need for this. And I've figured out the engine situation. It's weird for sure. 1
Can-Con Posted July 1, 2024 Author Posted July 1, 2024 Finished the interior. Wanted to do it in grey but the old paint kept bleeding through the primer. Happy with the dark red though. It goes well with the exterior of the truck. 2

iamsuperdan Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 I'll be starting a thread for this one shortly. Managed to start shaving the trim off the body. Did some mocking up too. It's coming along as planned. 1

Did another coat of spray and flocking a few minutes later. This is how I've been doing my carpets for quite a while now. 1
Can-Con Posted July 3, 2024 Author Posted July 3, 2024 I figured I'd put the most radical '90s Chevy engine in it so, what would that be? Well the Corvette ZR-1' s LT5. Took some grinding on the crossmember under the engine and shortening the hump in the oil pan to get it to fit in there but it finally fit. I also scratched up an insert got the grille from sheet stock and strip stock. 6

Bullybeef Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 I’ll be in on this one, once I find all my obs stuff, still unpacking slowly from my cross country move. I’ll start with this one as I’ve already uncovered it! 3

(accuracy, detail, etc.) Looks pretty good to me. Only real difference from the Vette kit's engine is the headers don't have cats attached and there's no Corvette lettering anywhere on the intake. It's very similar beside that with small differences in the sculpting detail. BTW, the "Boyd's Hauler" has a regular LT-1, not the 4 cam LT-5 It's a very nice kit but it's 1/24 scale. Yes, I'm a "scale bigot". ? 1

DJMar Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 I've got a few of the various AMT Chevy kits in the stash & I think I need to add this to my "to-do" list. As a matter of fact, I have a early issue Sportside kit that's just begging to be built. I have ideas!! 1

The LT-1 is a pretty basic hi-output Chevy small block, the '90s Corvette LT-5 was a quad over head cam monster developed for Chevy by Lotus. 1
