I have just started this kit for a Group Build on Youtube.  This is the old original 1963 kit and it's a little on the rough side.  I'm going to ditch the kit engine and install an Ardun Flathead V8 engine from Texas 3D Customs.  Not much has been done yet but I did remove the "Funky" hood hinge that was in the center of the hood and I've gotten the body cleaned up a little.  I worked on the front suspension and it took some extra elbow grease.  As bad as this kit seems so far I'm starting to get concerned on how bad the doors are going to fit.

Git after it Buddy and good luck?

Thanks.  I think I'm going to need all the luck I can get on this one.

Looking forward to your build Bob. This kit is was amazing back in 63, opening doors, trunk and hood steerable front wheels and a very accurate Stone, Woods and Cook Gasser!  Age hasn’t been good to the molds and the kit is a challenge to start with. I sure you’ll do it justice!

Go slow with it, pin as many parts as possible. One kid I grew up with did one, he was around 11 at the time and it came out excellent. He was way ahead of anyone else I knew back then. He got the doors working flawlessly. Keep in mind that things like plastic stock and using metals was unheard of.

Thank's Roger.  Yup, the molds are a little past worn out.  The wheels and tires and decals are not in the best of shape so I've been looking for some aftermarket ones to replace them.  This one is for sure going to be a challenge.

Thank's Bob.  Going slow is key here for me especially since I tend to rush things sometimes.  I really enjoyed the Revell Goodguys 41 Willy's I built but this one is no comparison.

I like your choice of Motivation, Bob.

Wheel Choice depends on what 'Era' you plan the car to be in.

Iceman, VCG and Texas 3D all offer some dragster wheels, but most are modern and not too vintage.

Good Luck

I built one maybe 10 years ago. A ton simpler than the 1963 issue

Thank's.  I use Jay's wheels & tires on most of my builds and I may have found a set of Weld S77 Wheels with Hoosier Drag Slick or the Vintage Halibrand Gasser Drag Wheels & slicks.  I'm just looking to build it as a kewl looking 41 Willy's drag car.  Not looking for period correct.

I go with the Vintage Halibrands, but that just me. I did look up both sets on Jay's Ebay site. Both looks good.

I think the Older Cars looks funny, with more modern wheels.

Thank's Alan.  Yup, pretty much made up my mind I'm going with the Hailbrand wheels and tires.

Supercharged and Hilborn injected Ardun flathead Ford in a '41 Willys Gasser with vintage Halibrands, WOW, this is going to be GREAT!!!...

Yeah, it's going to be a beast.  I need to get my wheels & tires ordered.

I was looking at the kit wheels & tires and I may end up using them.  I have a set of other tires from Jay's and they are the same with as the Halibrands I was looking at.  They are just to wide.  To modify the floor pan to get the wheels & tires to look right would take a ton of work and wouldn't look right looking in the trunk.  I'll think I'll just keep what I have.  They will still look pretty decent.

Looking good Bob. I like the old 41 Willys, need to get me a kit.

Thank's James.  The 2001 & 2005 Release that I built were much much better kits than the 1963 version I'm current working on.
