Well fellows, I dug deep in that top hat and found another rabbit :P  Miracles do happen I guess.  It paid off this time to give it one more shot.  I'm not even sure why I bought that can of Tamiya black paint at the hobby shop last week.  I guess it was meant for this paint job.  I've never had black come out this good before.

Nailed that black paint job, well done Bob.

Great recovery on this build, going to be a looker with that colour combo.

Thanks Carl.  Not done just yet.  Still have to get the 2K clear on it.

The temp this morning was 84° with 55% humidity so I shot the Splash Paints 2K Urethane Clear on this morning.  I shot my test spoon first just to make sure there was no issues with the Tamiya TS-14 Black and the Splash Paints 2K clear.  I really like this clear as it helps to hide minor issues.  I'll let this set for 3 days then wet sand and polish it.  The worst part is over so I think I'm out of the woods.  Boy oh boy this has been a rough one to paint.

The paint has been air drying for 48 hrs now and I just stuck it in the Dehydrator at 122° for 1 1/2 hrs.  It should be plenty dry after that.  I got some of the detail work finished such as headlights and turn signals, dash, radiator hose, etc.  I'm trying to decide if a I want to wet sand the body or just give it a good waxing.

Must be very gratifying at this point, after all the trouble the paint gave you, to be ready to assemble it all.  Great looking truck!

It is.  Didn't think this one would see the assembly stage.  Thanks for coming by.

That's sharp! That black looks so good.

I'm curious if you always run your dehydrator at that temp. Does the higher temp/shorter time work well for you? A few years back I had an unfortunate incident where I cranked up the heat but wasn't paying attention to the time, and I slightly melted an an AMT '40 Ford coupe. It wasn't much, but it ruined a beautiful orange paint job less than a week before a local contest. Doh! Since then, I run my dehydrator on the lowest setting, which according to the dial is 95°F. I leave it under the hood for 4 hours at a time. Low and slow, which is kinda how I work.

Much obliged DJ.  Yeah, I had a melt down on a Jimmy Flintstone Resin body of the 51 Henry J Sedan Delivery.  Not because of the heat though, it was due to it being a resin body.  I never set my Dehydrator over 110 degrees.  I was just looking around on Splash Paints website and saw this about the dry time on their 2K Urethane Clear.

I run my dehydrator at a flat 105. It has a dial, but I double check it with a candy thermometer just to be sure. My old one that had the house dimmer switch, I made a "sticker" in CAD and printed it on clear acetate, held on with double face clear tape.

I have never melted anything, I have read that you have to be careful with delicate 3D printed materials.

Yup.  I run mine at 104° or 114°.  These are odd temps but they are pre-set.  It starts at 95° and goes up to 158°.

I got the bright work on the front all painted and re-chrome and installed.  I thought I would get out in the garage early this morning and get the bmf on the windshield trim before I start cutting the grass.  it's going to be a hot one today with the heat index well over 100°.

That color combo is just kicking it.

Just curious, is the instrument panel a decal? To my eyes it looks like the gauges are...upside down?

Thanks DJ.  With the shape of the the instrument cluster area the decal can only go on one way.
