Mike 1017 Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 A while back I asked for opinions about going to Walmart for glasses. The majority of opinions were " Go to an Optronomist" I took your advice. There is a joke somewhere in this. A guy walks into an eye doctor to get sunglasses and winds up getting cataract surgery on both eyes. I am very happy with the results of the surgery. Mike 2
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 Being able to see clearly is nice, so they tell me.
slusher Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 When I received it was amazing how clear everything thing was. 1
espo Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 Having done the same thing a few years ago I agree. Didn't know how bad it was until I got it corrected. As I'm sure you're finding out your eyes are far more light sensitive than before the operation. At first it can be like staring into a headlight to go outside on a sunny day. As long as you don't need a prescription lenses just about any good pair of polarized sunglasses should work. 1
TransAmMike Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 I had 20/400 vision in one eye and 20/40 in the other. After cataract surgery I'm amazingly 20/20 in both eyes, even tested a better 20/15 on one exam. I wore glasses from late teens until my last surgery in December2022, about 57 years. Loving it. I do still have to use reading glasses looking at small print and objects. 1
bobss396 Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 I should go for it myself. Now I pay out of pocket for glasses and even with a plan they were still up there in price. A guy I worked with had it done, the first thing he noticed was how bright colors were. I'm also curious what impact it may have on model building. I'm so used to taking my glasses off to see something close up. 1

The reason I went with distance lenses because I had a hard time seeing street signs. I should have had this done when I was still driving a Semi. There is nothing worse than missing a turn and then go hunting for a place to turn around because I could not read the street sign. Driving my car now I can read those signs. Mike 1

When I moved back to this small town about 8 years ago, I needed new contacts. I asked around regarding the best place to go, but long story short, the results were less than satisfactory, especially considering the high price. I eventually ended up at Walmart and received great service and excellent contacts at about half the price. I’m on my second set and not going anywhere else for eye care.

This would be best discussed with the surgeon doing your operation. The doctor would be better able to explain the differences and help you decide which would be in your best interest. I went with a normal long-distance lens since I also have a stigmatism in one eye that requires me to use "reader" glasses for reading and real close work. For the computer per his suggestion, I'm using some 2x over the counter glasses with a filter to protect my eyes from the computer glare. I also got a Veralux type glasses that have a normal lens and a lower portion designed for reading and they will darken in the sunlight. 1

Well Bob, like I said, after the cataract surgery I have 20/20 vision and before the surgery I had to do just like you, take my distance glasses off to see up close. Need readers now to model and read up close. 1
bobss396 Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 I know there are options, I have no problem wearing glasses, I have since age 7. It would be nice to have some good OTC sunglasses like Ray Bans, heck... maybe 2 pairs.
