I have been finding these spiny seed pods in my front yard. I'm here 38 years and this is a first. I have around 20 of them.

I looked it up quick, some sort of weed seed pod.

I believe this is a chestnut ?. I have no such trees around. But I have woods close by. The critters must be bringing them in.

You are correct, also fun to step on in your bare feet..

With all the acorns in my yard, I am careful about where I go barefoot.

I'm going to try to locate the chestnut tree/trees in the woods next door. It us pretty dense so I can't wander in far.

Careful going in, we don't want to have to see your photo on a missing person bulletin! "Man possibly snatched by a Bigfoot or a gang of crazy Squirrels"

All kidding aside.. my neighbor has a Walnut tree near the property line. The Squirrels love it but those dang walnuts are messy and stain my concrete driveway, plus stepping on one when mowing can turn your ankle if you're not paying attention.  You can tell which Squirrels are enjoying the walnuts because they have dark staining around their mouths edges, kinda gives them that 5 o'clock shadow look.

My rabbits are MIA for a while. I had 2, a big and a little one. Then just the little one... now none. I also have fox in the area.

I have to do a head count on the squirrels soon.

More pesky squirls.

I know people don't think highly of Squirrels, just gray rats but, I can contest that they and my extremely friendly chipmunk gave me something to look forward to daily while I was caring 24/7 for my dad till he past. It was an escape from the day to day doom and gloom of what was coming.

The squirrels that come to my yard have gotten as bad as my dogs. Most days the squirrels come to the door and/or patio and demand breakfast and dinner. They hang around and get all excited when they see me. Similar to my dogs who won't leave me alone when it's meal time.

Of course the dogs are much more respectful and know their place but the squirrels can't be taught with a rolled up newspaper. ?

This got me out of bed at 5 this morning. A huge raccoon going through my recycling pails on my deck.

Nothing was knocked over, they are good at getting the lids off.

You would be amazed just how destructive these little bandits can be when foraging.

I'm careful about what goes into the pails, anything with food on it gets washed first. Cans are rinsed out. I'm glad the pails were not knocked over.

My girlfriend works with a lady, they got into her attic and ultimately did a tour of her kitchen cabinets.

Many years ago, we built a new home in an area that had been used for grazing cattle for many years until developers started building new homes there. Our neighbor across the street had a yard that backed up to what was a dry wash most of the year but had enough moisture to attract many different woodland creatures. They went away for a one-week vacation only to return and find that a couple of Racoons had used their doggy door to get into the garage and they clawed their way into the house. The Racoons had ransacked the kitchen as well as the dog food stash. Something you would have to see to appreciate the destruction they caused.

I had squirrels get into my garage via a damaged roof. I'm still finding loose insulation everywhere. I patched it until I got a new put on.

Each fall I go around the house and garage making sure nothing can get in.

I back up to state land on 2 sides of my property. The only thing I don't have is chipmunks and these woodchuck/gopher things I see out east of me.

I see possum, fox, of course raccoons. Something happened to my rabbits recently. I had a wild turkey in my yard back in April.

A BEAUTIFUL, clear sunny day here in my neck of SoCal. There is usually enough moisture in the air that the view of mountain range in the distance is obscured. In the lower picture, the mountain range in the distance on the left is more than 100 miles away.

Some shots of the deer on my property. There is a small herd that takes up residence every year, gotta figure out how to get them to pay some rent or something. This is three of them.

Picked more hot peppers yesterday. Top to bottom. Habanero, Ghost and Scotch Bonnet.

I chopped them all up, vacuum sealed them and stashed them in the freezer.

I managed to avoid getting anything on my hands this time.

Those look delicious Bob. I didn't plan on having any really hot ones this year, but somehow I had a Carolina  Reaper come up. I dehydrate mine.  I grew sweet cayenne, and Sweet Heat Peach as my hot peppers this year. My GF/Partner gets blisters form just saying jalapeno, so I am limited on cooking with them.

My girlfriend likes the heat. She's into a spicy margarita ? when he go out.

I have hot cherry, cayenne and 4 jalapeños on the patio in pots. I did reapers a few years back and they were HOT. I pack them up in small batches so I add them to chili or soup.
