rv1963 Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 The grille does look good like that, well done.

OK, ANYBODY, WHO MAKES THE MOST ACCURATE '57 CHEVY? see what I did there? I shouted to get everyone's attention ?. I have an AMT kit that has the bumper, grill, emblem/signal bar and hood trim as four separate pieces. The grill itself is not chrome. I also have the Revell convertible kit that has the hood trim separate. The AMT chrome is not shiny, looks more like aluminum.? Edited September 2, 2024 by NOBLNG
NOBLNG Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 (edited) The Revell kit is 1/25 scale, the AMT has no scale indicated on the box. The built up Monogram kit is 1/24 scale. Edited September 2, 2024 by NOBLNG

Look ? That Monogram logo had me fooled but this is a really nice full detail kit. Beyond that, who knows? Hey, maybe it's time has come. EDIT: I just went through this '55 kit and there is no flash, very little in the way of parting lines and the chrome is quite nice. The rear quarter side trim is cast separately and plated a la the Lindberg '53 Victoria. It has white wall inserts, decals for the scripts, wheel covers, engine, and dash guages as well as custom freehand pinstriping. This seems like a great kit to build OOB. Hopefully, there won't be any surprises. The mold is dated. I can't believe I didn't build this yet. ? Edited September 3, 2024 by customline

customline Posted September 3, 2024 Author Posted September 3, 2024 35 minutes ago, NOBLNG said: That’s NOT a ‘57.? Yeah, I know, I know....I just thought it was pertinent. It's my thread, Greg. ?.... no really, though, the point was the accuracy or lack thereof. I did wander off ( I do that occasionally) but this '55 really surprised me. I had been thinking about it, knowing it was malingering on my laundry room shelf (they're everywhere) and it bore the Monogram logo. It's clearly not a old Monogram kit (which was my memory of it) so in view of my current endeavors, I am greatly encouraged. I'll get back to "El Nomado" soon enough. I could get primer on it today, the weather should be perfect to get some paint done. The impulse to start this '55 is very powerful, though. It's a very good kit. The only thing that would make it better would be a separate frame.
NOBLNG Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 LOL, just yanking your chain Jim.? I have the Monogram ‘55 kit as well. Maybe I’ll do both the ‘55 and ‘57 convertibles in one thread when I get motivated.?

Maybe I’ll do both the ‘55 and ‘57 convertibles in one thread when I get motivated.? Chain yanking is always allowed on my threads, Greg. It's a nice break from all that model car nonsense. Today I received another '57 Chevy. Same as the "Pepper Shaker", an ebay prize for like $13. Open box, missing a few things. Brown ?. I bought a Pepper Shaker a while back in the same condition and the blown 409 was not there. I open today's prize and the chrome trees were still sealed ?. Then I pull out some trees and ....wait....I only see three engine block halves. Natually, half of my 409 is missing. No more five-sevens for me ( I knew a guy that talked like that.... "my 5-7 this", "my 5-7 that"...he had a nice '57 Bel Air hardtop and he was quite enamored with it. Probably why I'm not crazy about them.)..... I just decided to do it "High School Dropout Greeezuh from South Providence driven pigged-out rust-bucket ". And I'm going to borrow an idea from that '78 Nova beater thread that has me all inspired. Can't wait. ? On a lighter note... I managed to fashion a reasonable bumper/ grille thing today. As you may know, I cut the kit grille apart to shorten it and attach the upper trim where it belongs so that when the hood is open, it looks more like the 1:1. This necessitated modifying the fenders because now the bumper is a bit higher and well...anyway, I'm not quite done with the bondo work but here's what I've got so far. I had to use two kit grilles to do it. No big loss. And there you have it! It's a little off but (to me, at least) it looks better than the way Monogran did it. I'm keeping my options on the table, though, the bed trim thing looks like it won't work out because the trim is just too small and will be difficult to foil. I may have to abandon that and well.... I dunno. Thanks for listening to me talk to myself.
David G. Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 Hey did somebody say "pigged-out rust bucket"? That's just what I did with that Monogram 55 kit. Here's a link to the thread if you want to see more. And then there's "The Reaver", my 57, 58 mashup. Knowing how you feel about 57s I thought you'd get a kick out of this one. The Monogram 55 Chevy is a nice kit, I had fun building it. Sorry for the hijack Jim but I thought you'd get a kick out of those. David G.

Sorry for the hijack Jim but I thought you'd get a kick out of those. David G. Oh yes. The '55 is pure magic. It looks like you've been in a few salvage yards, David. ?. The rear plate bracket is pretty special. For an Ohio car, I think maybe you were a little bit too kind though. She actually looks like she might still have floors . I dunno, I might try to find out how much they want for it. ? Now that other beast...The Road Warrior is one of my all-time faves....are those snow tires? Where'd you get those? I love snow tires! Especially the ones with the studs ?. I can still hear them grinding down West Shore road in mid-March. But I digress....those are both gems, Dave. Got any more? Not much going on here right now so feel free! After seeing that awesome ?-box Nova WIP, I'm chomping at the bit. The '57 I just got is a prime candidate for a job like that. And I won't be kind ?. EDIT: just looked at the link, Dave. I got a few ideas from it. Really super weathering and general flavor. How many of f these 1:1s have we seen like this a half century ago. I remember trying to talk my dad into one like this....well, it was a little nicer ? but I wanted a '55 Chevy and I never got one.? Edited September 4, 2024 by customline

customline Posted September 9, 2024 Author Posted September 9, 2024 (edited) Oh.....I dunno ?...hey - look who's talking( l mean laughing, Greg. customline Posted September 9, 2024 Author Posted September 9, 2024 46 minutes ago, David G. said: Nice to see that it's still there! David G. C'mon now, David, where would it go? True, I've been neglecting it lately....well, how about I get some primer on it today, would that make everyone happy? And I'll do a full-blown mock-up with glass, interior, and chrome but I've got to wait till it warms up out there and the humidity drops. I'll work on the Edsel till then. Or the T-birds. Or the Plymouth. Or the Fleetline. Or the '65 Chevy. Or the Chrysler. Or the Del Rey. Yes! ? The Del Rey! No....?..... 1
Bullybeef Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 @customline hey Jim, maybe you could just finish the roadster ??????????
customline Posted September 10, 2024 Author Posted September 10, 2024 14 hours ago, Bullybeef said: @customline hey Jim, maybe you could just finish the roadster ?????????? Actually, Bil, I did get a bit done on the roadster. I installed the tail lights, and I did some assembly; body to fender unit and radiator to frame. I just glued the hood on and your imagination will do the rest ( ? hidden fasteners.) I did give this one a coat of light primer to see what I need to pay more attention to. ? I think its time to hit the body work with some sand-able red oxide now followed by wet sanding. I also spent some time on the interior and here's a mock-up of that ? I just need to add cup holders ? 3
David G. Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 The body work looks great in primer Jim! If I were going to use the diamond-tufted console, I'd also try to get some tufting elsewhere in the cabin- the seat cushions, rear cabin wall or door panels. Something like that. But that's just me. David G.

I spent all night on that stupid console (my patience was in high gear) and I still need to add cup holders. Shoulda done that before I glued it down ?. Not much room to work in that bucket but I can just veneer over the existing. We shall see. It will look like the above. No buttons- I may be crazy but I'm not completely insane ?....and it won't be shiny cheap metalflake vinyl like the above gasser. Rich Corinthian leather. Maybe. I wonder if there's a Cordoba kit ?.

Edit: Sorry for rushing an Arteest!? A couple of months ago, me and the old woman decided we didn't really need a guest bedroom so we sold the bed that had been slept in maybe twice in ten years and set up the room for our hobbies. Before that we were sharing our dining room table. I now have an 6' long, 2.5' wide work surface and it's still not enough. Why? Because now I can start a lot more kits! I appreciate you getting me back on the primary project, Greg. It's just a hazard of this hobby to wander off when we get a new idea.

Ooooo.....I need to get that shirt for my son. He was a Ritalin junkie. I thought about temperature control for my detached garage but I realized I just don't feel like it. I don't care! It's not important enough to do all that to paint a stupid plastic car. I think I might be evolving. ?
