Good point. At the time AMT was marketing this model along with a few others, their component quality was at or close to the best in the marketplace. Why they sold out to others is a mystery to most including myself.

The merger with ERTL was a very good thing for AMT.

Guess what color I've chosen for this car ?

IMG_6825.thumb.jpg.cb2983979d0044ca105a26864976cd91.jpg

Nope, not orange....

That's right! Tamiya "coral blue!"  Very good, Lenny.

Not much going on here but the wheel covers are detailed and the interior parts are being detailed. The body is molded cleanly with the least mold abberations I've seen in quite a while. Only one little spot where the driver's side mirror will be located. After that gets sanded the body will be ready for primer. The white primer will be covered with gloss clear in the rear insets/rear lower panel and the roof. I hope.

Love the colour choice Jim

I don't love the way it looks in this photo, Bil. It looks like a cloudy day here. After I finish the detailing I'll get some shots with better lighting.

Looks better than a cloudy day here, you can still see blue, here it’s just layers of grey haha.

Thanks for sharing. Looking really good so far. I too may have to seek out this kit. I am inspired!

It's a good one, mostly, but we shall see. The interior assembly needs to be tested yet with glass in place but I don't expect any problems. Thanks for your comments.

Yeah, I don’t think orange would work with that interior. Coral Blue a much better choice?

Actually, Lenny, I think orange would look fabulous on this body style. It deserves a flashy paint job. And orange with lots of chrome? Awesome. Too late. ☺️

That's a great choice of color Jim. It really captures that Fifties feel.

I chose pink and black for the one I built.

David G.

Thanks, David, pink and black was my first choice but I didn't have any pink enamel for the wheel covers. Did you know Testor's "turquoise" is a dead ringer...?never mind.

How about Tri-color, white, black and coral.  ?

That’s actually a Chrysler combo.  Knew a guy who worked at a Plymouth dealership, had a 56 Dodge with a hemi in that combination

I had a black and white '56 Royal Lancer that a perfect stranger gave me. He was an old guy( kinda like me now ?) and saw I was driving my Desoto so he thought "he will appreciate this". And if I wanted to spend 50 bucks, a '56 FURY  would be mine. I had no idea at the time. I didn't know how special it was. The Dodge was a parts car, nothing more. I didn't go back for the Plymouth. My tiny yard wouldn't accommodate another set of wheels. ?

Edsel update:

Interior has been assembled on the floor pan and at this point I need to do a glass-in mock-up to see if I'm still trouble-free. The dash/windshield/firewall must be tested; this is where I always seem to run into trouble.

IMG_6834.thumb.jpg.8d0246ecea3d3b95fce0bab720b19227.jpgIMG_6833.jpg.040e6a30936fd8b83cb54411bd03dd1b.jpgIMG_6837.thumb.jpg.33b4f6b3b9143df80cc28a310002a28d.jpg

IMG_6832.thumb.jpg.7bdbd45dcb9eea3a6229317c93354604.jpg

I thought I would paint the hood to get it out of the way because I wanted paint on both sides. I used Tamiya fine white and followed ten minutes later with the color, two coats. When it dried....

IMG_6838.jpg.e97af7b0f4afa24c15fa819d7dc0bac3.jpgIMG_6839.thumb.jpg.1d992a835f2acf75314f5469717ec906.jpg

Why does this happen? I remember someone explaining this phenomenon but I need to hear it again. I smoothed out the "frosted" areas with 3600 grit but started to see white so I stopped there and put more paint on it. The 'frost' came through a little but not like the first time. I don't get it but I know it's not just me.

Here's the firewall after some detail painting. This is a nicely tooled part that will certainly provide realism to the power barn (?).

That's it for now, thanks for your attention ?

Interior looks awesome Jim, “power barn” detail is tidy as well. That FE is great looking.

I think the colors of the engine are so unusual that it just naturally draws interest. The sequence of assembly has me a bit concerned regarding the way the entire interior is glued down tight and it's all got to line up perfectly when the firewall is made permanent and the body is dropped over the whole mess. I worry ?. I'm gonna go do a mock-up right now ?.

Wow looking great! I love the engine bay.

Thanks, Will. I just looked at my reference pic. Got more to do on that firewall.

looks like all you gotta do is put the throttle/carb linkage bar on, that shouldn't be too hard.?

Can a car be so ugly it’s actually cool? The best description of these cars I’ve ever heard is it looks like an Oldsmobile sucking a lemon. ? Say what you want about them, I’m still happy they went to the effort of making a really good kit of it.
