rattle can man Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 So I like many types of music, but the current crop of pop music leaves un-impressed. I've found the following radio stations to stream while building. feel free to add to the list. WCLZ, Portland Maine. slogan is "different is good" modern music, but not big name pop artists you usually hear on the radio. Big Radio stations, Wisconsin and Illinois. Oldies, Country from '60's to 90's, and classic rock Groovy 105.7, Tulsa Oklahoma, '60s & '70s WKKFI Kansas City, various genres: blues, rockabilly, Soul, old country, Jazz, and even a program that is strictly music from '45s. KMUW, wichita. Sunday night soul and blues shows retrococktailhour.org "home of space age pop and incredibly strange music". Tiki, TV, spy Jazz, exotica and so much more. stream and episode or stream the new on-line radio station
Dave Ambrose Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 Nice list. Gotta try some of those. There was a good radio station in Madison, WI whose call sign I can't remember except it somewhat obviously started with W. Give Radio Paradise a try. (Quite) a while back, I learned that my best music category was eclectic. RP does a pretty good job at that. I'm also a fan of KEXP's YouTube channel.
Matt Bacon Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 (edited) I can highly recommend BBC Radio 6 Music, which you can stream in the USA with the BBC Sounds app on your phone or via the website: https://www.bbc.co.uk/schedules/p00fzl65 Eclectic music for grown-ups curated by a variety of experienced DJs and musicians… in proper radio shows. There’s a wide range of tastes and styles represented over the week, but Craig Charles’ funk and soul show on a Saturday, Cerys Matthews, Guy Garvey and Iggy Pop’s shows on a Sunday, and Stuart Maconie’s Freak Zone are all favourites of mine… best, M. PS: re below. And NO ads! Edited September 12, 2024 by Matt Bacon
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 Saturday nights from 8 PM to 2 AM Eastern US time, WABE Atlanta streams a locally-produced classic jazz show that I particularly enjoy working to...sometimes. There are many streams from 30 minutes long to continuous 24/7 available on yootoob, everything from classical to "classic rock" to dark film-noir-style jazz to blues to "epic" and period music and "vaporwave". The $14 monthly YT "premium" membership gives access to a wider array of commercial-free music than anything else I've found. Soma FM also streams an eclectic assortment of music styles. https://somafm.com/ I stream what I want through my computer and run the speaker output through my sound system amp and main speakers. I will not listen to tinny little-speaker sound, or anything with commercials.
iamsuperdan Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 6 minutes ago, Dave Van said: XM 33, or 9933 on dish. First Wave I listen to First Wave all the time! But not when building. I usually listen to post-rock or post-metal artists on Spotify. Mostly instrumental artists. I find it relaxing. Here's a recent release I've been playing lately.
NitroMarty Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 I have my own play lists that I put together for different moods.... The one that is probably my favorite is a compilation of 80's hair metal... But not the stuff that saw a lot of radio play. I prefer the deep cuts. I also have a country rock / southern rock play list that is put together the same way... Also 80's new wave. I even like to play movie soundtracks.
Mike 1017 Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 I use my Google Nest to play Spotify and Pandora shuffles. I use my phone to listen to Audio Books. I also have a stereo receiver, CD player, turntable and 2 Bose 2.2 speakers in my workshop. I have 257 albums to choose from. ROCK and ROOL NEVER DIES!! Mike
rattle can man Posted September 12, 2024 Author Posted September 12, 2024 It's been almost 20years since I was last in the UK. I totally forgot about some of their good programs.
