The small block turns 70

This is the month 1955 Chevrolet hit the showrooms, and with it, the iconic small block V-8.

Wow. It's such a brilliant design it's not going away soon. Ed Cole used his experience from Cadillac to improve the design of the Chevy V8 and look what happened! It's a beautiful piece of engineering. I am fortunate here in the UK to own one and I often look at it and in awe, what a design.

There's a reason it got put in nearly everything.

It's drag racing's all-time winningest engine. Obviously, not in the pro classes, but, across the board. It led to more than a few drag racing fans referring to some classes as "AFC Racing." "Another BLAH-BLAH-BLAH Camaro"!?

The 327 was the go-to engine for most Gassers until the 426 Hemi became available.
