Bullybeef Posted March 8 Author Posted March 8 Moving along with the chassis and drivetrain! The lengths we go for scale accuracy can be a test of one’s patience and eyesight! 😦 all the tiny holes are drilled and now to have a couple cups of strong coffee to get the hands shaking to make a complete mess of this! Seriously kidding about the coffee. I’m using the small block ford from many of the Revell line of 32’s, a fair bit of dechroming was done and a set of cobra valve covers from the parts bin(last set too). 5
tim boyd Posted May 4 Posted May 4 (edited) Bill....interested in seeing this one progress when you have the time! I did one nearly three decades (!) ago....removed the cab back seat reinforcement rib....used (I think) the AMT '34 Ford pickup bed with the side moldings filed off (to reset the bed to the shorter '32 Ford frame from the Revell hot rod series), etc, etc. Good luck with yours...TB Edited May 4 by tim boyd 5
Mr. Metallic Posted November 11 Posted November 11 Bil, i know you stepped away from the bench for awhile. Did this one get any further? You're off to a great start.

You're off to a great start. It got carefully put on the someday shelf, I actually looked in the box not long ago, I had thoughts of making some changes actually( engine being one of them) it might get some time on the bench before I kick off the OBS debacle. As it seems I bay have difficulty getting the gmc bits I want. Time will tell Craig 1
Bullybeef Posted November 12 Author Posted November 12 (edited) Well dang it, now I got Curious and pulled the box off the “maybe someday”shelf and had a rethink of some things. Rolling stock will probably be a matched set (size wise) as great as the big n littles look to my eyes, I think it would be better suited to be a little more trucklike. The cab needs some more attention to get it sitting on the frame properly, I got that sorted I think. The bed and rear fender units will need some friendly persuasion to sit in there respective positions. So all this rethinking has led to a lot of parts box diving… and the ideas that keep spilling out on the bench for other projects, oh my here we go again! Thanks Craig @Mr. Metallic for the reboot. Thank you for your interest in my build. I guess I only needed a gentle prodding to get it back on the bench. Edited November 12 by Bullybeef 5
Mr. Metallic Posted November 12 Posted November 12 Glad to see it back, hope it doesn't pull you away from the 48 coupe And I love that wheel/tire combo from the original Revell 32 roadster. Gives a great stance right out of the box.

I do like the wheels and tires as well but they think a squared setup will be more to my thoughts.

Bullybeef Posted Friday at 01:37 PM Author Posted Friday at 01:37 PM (edited) Not a super big update, but a change in rolling stock has given me a little push forward. The wheels and tires are the extra steelies and tires from the revell 49 Merc kit and I think the squared size fits the truck a little better. And as a comparison an old amt 34 truck that will get a sympathetic restore some day maybe. I bought a parts lot of old amt and lindberg trucks some years back and have plopped them out on the bench many a time to do some mock ups, the last one makes me want to make a small semi or a junk yard pig with a tow boom. Bullybeef Posted Monday at 02:33 PM Author Posted Monday at 02:33 PM Another successful bench session has resulted in a much more positive result! I binned the attempted fenders and started with another set from the parts storage( like who doesn’t have multiple fender sets at the ready)? The rear fenders have had the backing pieces sliced cleanly off so there is clearance for the bed to fit tightly. Roughly about two mm was removed in total. I started cleaning up the bodywork on the box sides by adding filler pieces where the amt rear fender unit sat and have started some light sanding on the overall body. im much happier with the results. Next up will be modifying the selected wheels to allow fitment to the kit axles. If all goes well, I may be able to shoot primer soon! 3

Thank you Daniel, I need to get a bit of a push on this one as it’s taking away from finishing my 48 build. I’ll probably only have one or two windows of opportunity for paint as it’s getting pretty cold out here in the far east of Newfoundland. Next on the ole hacking block will be the cab floor as I’ll have to add a trans hump for clearance of the autotragic attached to the small block ferd. 2
Dtimmerman89 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Yeah,I feel ya there. I live South Dakota, or as we say here,"Southern Canada". The temps have definitely dropped here as well. However, my spray booth is in my little studio and I can keep everything warm since it's in the house. 1
