ModelcarJR Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 (edited) This is the AMT kit that I bought last week at Hobby Lobby. I wanted to do a performance Mach 1 instead of the 007 car and I have the Revell 007 kit so i thought I might find some pieces in this kit to use on that kit. Unfortunately, this kit does not have the front air dam or hood locks. The rear spoiler also is suspect as the supports are really too thin to put pins in. So the only thing that will help is the decal sheet which has the pinstripes and Mach 1 markings. So I am going to build this one without the aforementioned pieces with the black decals. I'll open another WIP for the Revell kit using some pieces that I have found in my parts box, and the decals from a Boss Mustang that I recently built. I'll use the silver decals from that Boss Mustang sheet and the silver pinstripes and Mach 1 markings from this kit. That way, I can build both kits. I already have built the AMT 007 car a few months ago so I don't want to do that one again. It will be hard enough to build this AMT kit as there is a lot of flash, bent parts (the rear taillight panel) and severe injector pin marks in the interior. Oh, and as Rex Turner, AKA, vamach1, let me know, there shouldn't be any vents in the hood on 71-73 Mach 1s. But I already have this one painted so they are going to stay. Here are some photos of the painted body and I will start rubbing it out tomorrow. Thanks for looking! ? Edited October 7, 2024 by ModelcarJR Copy text 2
ModelcarJR Posted October 10, 2024 Author Posted October 10, 2024 Rubbed out the body on this AMT kit and it had some orange peel. Must have been the day that the humidity didn't get below 50%. But the last two days have been good with about 30% humidity so the paint has turned out much better. I think I got most of the orange peel on this one and I am working on painting the other parts now, Interior will be black and this one will be box stock. Thanks for looking! ? 3
ModelcarJR Posted October 10, 2024 Author Posted October 10, 2024 I worked on rubbing out the 69 Chevelle this morning and then when the humidity came down turned my attention to all the other parts for this build. Of particular attention was the interior which has 6 circle thingys (pin injector marks) in the interior floor. One in each footboard area of the interior and two in the rear package area. So I dutifully filled the six deep circles with punched plastic and some putty. I sanded them out but its difficult to get level with my oscillating sander and even with sanding sticks because of the corners. So I did as much as I cared to and then I decided to use some glue and embossing powder to simulate carpet. Before I did that I taped off the doors, back seat and console, After the embossing powder was dry I painted it with some flat black spray as the powder was a brownish color. So after all that, it looks pretty good. At least you can't see the circles, although it might be hard to see with everything black. I also painted all the other parts and now I can move on to the parts for the blue and silver Revell 71 Mach 1. I'm thinking about either all black or blue and black for the interior in that one, with silver seat inserts, of coarse. If anyone has a thought about that let me know. What would you do? Thanks for looking! ? 2

slusher Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Nice work on those ejector pin marks on the package shelf, John…
ModelcarJR Posted October 14, 2024 Author Posted October 14, 2024 Thanks, Bob, Rex, and Carl! I appreciate your comments!
ModelcarJR Posted October 27, 2024 Author Posted October 27, 2024 I'm back on this one again. I have the engine and chassis completed. Both are not very good pieces so no detail on either. I found some Cragars in the parts box so I thought I would use them versus the standard 71 Mustang wheels that look like "Mexican hat" type of wheels to me. The interior is also in and I didn't take any photos as there is nothing to see there - some wood grain and silver inserts on the seats and that's about it. This should come together pretty quick tomorrow. Thanks for looking! ? 2
