Bainford Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 A huge Lotus 72...NICE! Looks like quite the project. I'll be following along on this build for sure. 1
Bugatti Fan Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 (edited) Erik, I can categorically say that the Imai/Bandai E type is a different kit altogether from the Monogram (now Revell) one as both kits have passed through my hands in the past. If I were looking for a 1/8th scale E type now, I would be looking at the Agora multi medium kit that is a roadster version Edited November 30, 2024 by Bugatti Fan
Mr mopar Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 Nice work .....I had this kit years ago it lacks detail for as big as it is, was not overly impressed with it after I built it. I sold it off for some big cash . 1

Yes, there are many differences between the kits, hence the Monogram simplified tooling. However, if you look at the Imai/Bandai tooling and compare to the Monogram tooling, you can see that they share (some of) the tooling, It can be best seen in the plastic parts. The sprues have mostly the same parts and sprue-lay-out. The body was retooled and so was the hood, as it was a complicated one-piece. Monogram did change the tooling for a cheaper/easier to produce 2 part hood. The Agora is also nice, but I just like to put the Monogram E-type together, it is just a fun kit without breaking the bank a bit too much. (I have 3 build, 2 in progress and 8 in stash 🙂 ).
AmericanMuscleFan Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Wow Rich you have jumped into the big leagues, 1/8 scale is a big toy but you will definitely have details for your hollow tooth! I'll come back to check your progress, I'm curious to see what this kind of kit can offer, it seems that upgrades are available so it's very interesting.
Bugatti Fan Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Erik, those two 1/8th scale E type kits looked very different to me way back when they passed through my hands. So if what you are telling me is correct than I therefore stand corrected. It would be interesting to see photographs of each kits parts layout to see what is common between the two kits and what has been tooled differently.
Moparman18064 Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 Little update: I’ve been working on the pumps. The mold lines and sink holes are terrible. After hours filling, sanding, I finally primed them. Pics to come soon
Moparman18064 Posted December 30, 2024 Author Posted December 30, 2024 It’s been a while. The pumps needed extensive reworking to even fit properly. On top of that, they lack detail badly. This sneered the mounting holes elongated, the pump housing cut and extended. Then to make it look more real, I molded a strip of styrene on housing where tube slides into it.
Moparman18064 Posted December 30, 2024 Author Posted December 30, 2024 The other side was missing a coupler and the body of one of the parts not even close to reality. I fashioned a coupler from 2.5mm thick styrene, .030”x.040” styrene. After that, a lot of reshaping the body to more closely look like the real thing, added more strip styrene to lengthen. Now I can finally move on.
