Brutalform Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 I hope a person with Mopar knowledge can shed some light. Working on Grumps Black Arrow, and I’m confused about the rear trim by the license plate area. I haven’t found many pics of this car, but this one of the rear shot, has the trim. Can’t really make out the words on the passenger side of it. In the Moebius kit, the trim is there but with “ Satellite”. Did this car ever have the trim, with “Belvedere” on it? Or was it blank? Would I be correct to add some PE Belvedere to it, or leave it blank? Thanks for any input guys. 1
R. Thorne Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 It looks like Belvedere II to me. My guess would be the Belvedere I would have had no chrome trim on the rear, the Belvedere II would have the trim as would the Satellite being the more expensive versions.
Brutalform Posted October 27, 2024 Author Posted October 27, 2024 (edited) Gotcha. Makes sense to me now. I’ve seen many with Satellite, or just with nothing at all on the trim. After searching Belvedere II, a bunch more pics came up. This one has the script below the actual trim. I’m still learning about Mopar everyday. Thanks Ron Edited October 27, 2024 by Brutalform 1

I just checked in my copy of the book "Grumpy's Toys". The Black Arrow was a Belvedere I Super Stock according to the original bill of sale and a picture of the rear of the car shows the trim with the "Belvedere" script on the upper right end of the chrome trim. Mark Posted October 28, 2024 Posted October 28, 2024 It must have varied depending on the assembly plant and/or time of year. One of my brothers had two '65 Belvedere Is at the same time. One was a low mileage original paint car bought from the original owner. Neither of them had that trim on the back.
1972coronet Posted October 28, 2024 Posted October 28, 2024 The 1965 'A990' cars were all built in the Lynch Road Assembly ; all had a VIN prefix of either WO51 (Coronet) or RO51 (Belvedere) . IIRC, they were built in batches (i.e., dedicated run of them vs. slagging them in with regular Coronets and Belvederes) . Could very well be that Grumpy added that tail panel embellishment (not all together uncommon - look at how Sox & Martin embellished their RO23H7 with 'GTX' badges).
gtx6970 Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 I don't think a belv sedan had any trim on the back end. Odds are what ever trim is on the race car was owner added

Brutalform Posted October 29, 2024 Author Posted October 29, 2024 Thank you all for the replies. I’d like to build the car just as it looked when raced. I’ll add the Satellite trim, and just add a PE Belvedere emblem. Also adding two rear bumper guards as well. I’ve got the rolling chassis completed, just have to get the body started now. 1
