Also started messing around with battery boxes. Not a lot of progress but some. Looks really nice Gary. I like that lift axle 1
Jürgen M. Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 Never Seen an Autocar in that configuration. Cool idea and nice work! 🍿🍺 Ready for more! 1
Gary Chastain Posted November 21, 2024 Author Posted November 21, 2024 Suspension completed, had to build a short set of air bags for the lifted axle. Fitting a Cummins/Spicer into the chassis. 4
Gary Chastain Posted November 21, 2024 Author Posted November 21, 2024 Fuel tanks/brackets made, go to finish straps. Getting fenders located so I can add fender mounts to the frame. 4
Jürgen M. Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 That is one cool build! Today during lunch break I was thinking about future builds! A four axle variation was part of the vision! Just have to decide which truck it's gonna be! Got a few ideas! 😉 1
BK9300 Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 Going to be (is!) an awesome looking truck, Gary! 2

So much so I just found an old REO kit to build another Resto Rod truck. Keep us posted on your ideas for a build. 1

Gary Chastain Posted November 24, 2024 Author Posted November 24, 2024 Test Fitting a Cummins NTA 370 into the Autocar, pretty snug fit, will be able to use the radiator for that engine ( fits in the grill opening) 3
Gary Chastain Posted November 25, 2024 Author Posted November 25, 2024 Two afternoons to make the air exchanger for the turbo. 3
Gary Chastain Posted November 26, 2024 Author Posted November 26, 2024 Finally found some red shrink tubing that just fits over .125 plastic rod (3.125 scale inches). I want to replicate the engine in the pictures and will be using a custom color on the motor ( no rules build). So need some help, what can I use for the silver clamps on the red hoses? 2
BK9300 Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Hi Gary - I used Hasegawa 'Mirror' finish film, trimmed very thin, with new x-acto blade, drawn at a very shallow angle over the film to cut it, otherwise the film gets damaged. Then, laying the thin strip of adhesive on the end of the hose, rotated the hose in my finger, doing best I could to keep the film strip going on straight enough while holding the end of the film with tweezers, to meet up with the other end. Its a bit stretchy, so that helps with any correction. Then just rolled the film/hose in my fingers to set the film - it sticks very well to itself. Great job on fabricating your air exchanger! 2

Thanks Brian for that tip, I have a roll of this chrome contact paper (unknown where it came from. I try that out. How wide did you cut it? 1
Gary Chastain Posted November 26, 2024 Author Posted November 26, 2024 Great tip Brian, woohoo, I think it worked. 1
Gary Chastain Posted November 26, 2024 Author Posted November 26, 2024 Now I have found a resource for all the elbows I need to plumb this engine. Going thru runners looking for the correct diameter and curves, new use for runners that we throw away. 2

Hhhhhhmmmm maybe I should smarten up a bit. ….. looking great ! 1
Jürgen M. Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 All this detail makes me dizzy! It's so fascinating. I just take a thin brush to make the stripes on the tubing. Of course it never looks as good as this stuff. Maybe I'll try that. Up to now I've always worked on a minimalistic level concerning details. Seems it's time to change that. At least a bit! 2
