Well said, thank you...Hes a pretty grumpy guy sometimes ,but he’s 70,so I do the best I can to help him.Just as long as he doesn’t take advantage of things, which he has a habit of doing..But then again,I’m half his age and I’m grumpy..Another thing, how of you are dealing alone with taking care of an elderly parent right now?Just curious.. Thanks Edited December 7, 2024 by NYLIBUD

Hang in there and be a good guy. Sometimes it kinda bites, but if something is the right thing to do, that's what you do. 4
johnyrotten Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 I call it being human. We've all had our ups and downs, sometimes something as simple as a ride or ten minutes of your time can mean the difference for someone. Those that take advantage of kindness or generosity, well you can guess how I feel. Just gotta choose wisely. I've got a similar friend, almost twice my age, she just has way too much on her plate, and some things they are just not physically able to do. 1
bobss396 Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Geez... now I'm becoming the elderly parent. My dad had always said that getting old was not for 🐈🐈⬛. Nice that you can help someone out when you can. 2
espo Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Remember a woman at church once telling me you had to be brave to be old. I'm starting to better understand what she was talking about. 4
slusher Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Sometimes you just don’t know the life some people have had that road Could be ruff. Kind is the only way to be.. 3

Big_John Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 70, geez that's old... Oh wait... I just turned 70 last week. I celebrated by going to my pain management doctors in the morning. The fun just never ends! 1
Falcon Ranchero Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 I mean i've been helping my grandma since my grandfather died in 2021; picked up where he left off I guess. No veg garden anymore though. But the property is large and so it keeps me busy; mowing the multiple fields or "lawns" if they'd even be classified as that since they're so large; take an hour for each one, with the riding lawn mower which is the same age as me. Painted the railings and cement stairs to both the front and rear doors, re-painted the 1980 something screen doors, did all the window sills, the garage roof overhangs, and misc stuff in/around the house. Yesterday put all of her Christmas deco up; the tree, ornamented it, got replacement lights for one of her early 2000's maybe late 90s window hanging wreath frame as the original cable finally stopped working 2 years ago. Wierd because the christmas tree and candle frames still work and the three came together. One more thing I gotta find one of her Christmas table cloths; the only one unaccounted for... gonna try looking later. Wouldn't call it taking care of her but I just like to make sure the place is nice because I really like being there. 2
rattle can man Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 We need more of people looking out for each other. Forget your differences and find something in common. Besides, doing something nice for someone brings more health benefit than stressing out and complaining. 4

Good on you. 1 1

I don't have too many appointments coming up right now, but when I do, it blows a big hole in my week.
Falcon Ranchero Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Forgot to mention one other thing I did for my grandma was rebuild the "shack" so to speak; it was an unsightly structure built by my grandfather and his pals in the 80s with a bucket of screws and 2 cases of beer. Constructed out of actual tree logs for the frame and roofed with that wavy type sheet metal and a mix of wood/metal sides and rear. No front door; was for the fourwheeler and lawn mower in the summer, and the 1953 Massey Fergeson in the winter. Neighbors cats kept using the shack as a litter box since the base of the shack is just sandy gravel. So I took off the rotten wood, added double doors on the front, added more wood on the sides replacing the sheetmetal that was on the sides and put that on the back of the shack so now the whole thing is enclosed and is an impenetrable fortress. Painted it all red, too. 3

Anyway, the place was crawling with young-ish widows, age 65 to 80. And they were all over him when he was out alone. Some were just about scraping by, so they were looking for a sugar daddy. 1
