This was run of the mill 1/2 inch thick 4" copper bar, nothing special. Some kind of thermocouple. "Peck" drilling it to depth. And this bridgeport is beat. Made the set up as ridgid as possible. I'm FAR from a machinist, but I'm not afraid to read up, self educated and learn how to do something. I've learned there's a wealth of knowledge available if you look for it

This was a model shop, all R & D work, crazy tolerances. The JPL project (project # G849...) was all thick stuff like 1/2" up to 2" material.

We got in 4' x 8' sheets, we sent it to the main shop to have it cut into smaller sizes. A 1" thick 4' x 8' plate weighed 1500 lbs.

Everyone worked on it for months, finally the project shipped. The assembly was done in our "black" area.

Made some progress tonight now that I'm over the plague. Made a new windshield and back glass out of acetate , I did not like the way the kit pieces looked, too visible. The rear was mounted on the tiniest little lip, probably flash I neglected to clean up. But I worked and that widow is in. "Turned" some parts for a shifter on the dremel and made that, I still got to figure out a appropriate length. Dash is installed, so tomorrow the cab is done, I can get on to finishing all the work on the chassis and engine.

Really nice work John. This is going to be a very nice build when completed, albeit a bit rusty… and dirty… but also beautiful! Great stuff.

Thanks, it's been a fun build so far. I appreciate the compliment. Its been a learning curve with this one, and the hobby in general. I'd really like to try my hand at making something 100% in scale and "correct"at some point.

Realistic looking patina and period interior trim.

Thanks. I would like to get better shots of the interior when it's assembled but it's very dark and shadowed. And I'm horrible with photography.

It's got that old school look to it Bob.  The 34 is very much looking the part.

Thank you. Your willys truck came out beautiful. Nice save with the paint/ headlight situation.

That rusty patina begs the question...Is your tetanus shot current?? Fantastic weathering work. Really enjoying this build.

Lots of progress on the 34. Modified the kit radiator to. Better fill the grill shell and weathered that, and got it fitted to the chassis. It is not glued in the pictures and not sitting quite where it will when finished. The wheels and brake drums play nicely now, tried to get the fronts inset as much as possible. The kit tires got the weathering treatment as well, the hubcaps are getting the same. All the pics are just a mockup, trying to figure out how I want the exhaust.  Thanks for checking this out.

Great Progress John. The weathering is excellent, seems like the more the pieces come together, the better it all looks. Those Frenzel superchargers are cool.

Many years ago I had left some models outside exposed to the elements for at least a few weeks.

I rediscovered them.. you could not ask for a better weathering-patina look.

Hard to beat time and mother nature. I'm giving it my best.

Progress finally. I scratch built new wishbone for the front end,a pair of glasspacks and the downpipe for the exhuast. And the driveshaft. Also wired the engine, ran coolant lines and got that installed, after running brake lines and mounting the master cylinder.

The realistic weathering on this one, coupled with the stance and super-rare blower are knocking this one out of the park.  Nice work!

Great progress John. Nice job on the chassis wiring, and plumbing. The more detail you add, the better the weathering looks.

Thank you both. The weathering is my favorite part on this build, I've  surprised myself with it. This is the first model I've taken to this level of a build, kind of a personal challenge of my skills/abilities. There's a bit of detail painting left to do on the engine, and unfortunately I've got to fit the exhaust "in place" due to how close it snakes past the master cylinder. That one pipe was such a pain to bend, definitely easier at 1:1.  Thanks again for the compliments.

It’s been fascinating to watch this weathered, die hard, come to life - if this is your first weathering attempt, it sure turned out well.  I haven’t found the courage to do that to a model yet.

I've done subtle weathering in the past, this is the first full on ratty look model I've done. I'm "new" to a lot of techniques used now, I took a thirty year break. The most difficult part, I find, is not going overboard and weathering/patina is rarely consistent or even. Thanks for the compliment,  and good luck when you give it a try.

On yeah...tlhat's looking killer dude.

Thank you. It definitely has an aggressive look from the front. As soon as it's finished I want to get some pictures in the daylight. Like any project, all the small details take the most time. Thanks again 👍
