Bullybeef Posted March 10 Author Posted March 10 Time to get back to work on this build, engine and details are up this episode. All the bench squirrels are resting after all their furious activity over the last week or so!🐿️ I’ve been sidetracked a fair bit due to the weather here not being fit for painting. 8
customline Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Hey, Bil, what's the current price of a catalog from R & M and how do I get it? Does he have a store front? I could probably drive there in 4 hours or less. 1

Bullybeef Posted March 14 Author Posted March 14 I think the engine is going to take the longest to do☹️, between cleaning all the resin bits to prepare for paint and making sure all the parts play well together, the Harmon Collins magneto while a very cool part does cause some interference with the waterpump pulleys and belt so a switch to a side mount was necessary. Now after some research it seems that a lot of the thickstun pieces were originally sold in red, I’m not a fan of that much red, so I’m still deciding on a finish that will be pleasing to my eye! I may introduce “some” red but not a lot. I’m still contemplating the wire looms. We will see how this all turns out 5
Bullybeef Posted March 16 Author Posted March 16 Al the small fiddly bits are starting to fall into there places, still a ton more detail painting to be done as well. Working on fuel lines as well but need to find the fuel pump, probably still in the box I looked at it in. 5
LennyB Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Engines looking good Bil. Makes me want to build a flathead oh, by the way I just found a fuel pump in a back pack one of the squirrels left here. 🥴 1

Lots of little details to work with. I actually found the pump I was looking for, it was still in the box that I had Initially found it in🤨 1

How come so many times it shows up in a place you already looked🤔 1 1
Bullybeef Posted March 16 Author Posted March 16 @LennyB every time I go looking for something I find cooler stuff! 2
LennyB Posted March 16 Posted March 16 And that gets me into deeper trouble because I end up with more projects scattered around the work bench. 1

Bullybeef Posted March 18 Author Posted March 18 I feel like i’m stuck in a slow time capsule with this engine build. It seems like this should have been finished days ago but no, I’m still here adding details. 4
LennyB Posted March 18 Posted March 18 It's a slippery slope Bil, you add one detail then another comes to mind. Then that one leads to two more. Next thing you know your adding a working oil drain plug, that's when you've gone too far.🤣 1 2

Bullybeef Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 I bet you guys thought I had forgotten about this build, well the weather has taken a turn for the springlike conditions so I have a window of opportunity to get some primer laid down on the body and other associated bits. 5
Bullybeef Posted April 18 Author Posted April 18 Trying out the duplicolour primer, yes it’s white, has its pros and cons compared to the now unavailable Tamiya (Canada). It’s been a fairly damp spring so hard to time a painting day that works. I have another body done with the same primer and will test Tamiya paint over it( yes I know many, many others have had success) don’t really want to beans it up! Had a family of squirrels in the bench recently and it got a bit crazy. Hoping to have the engine/chassis/drivetrain all buttoned up by the end of Easter weekend! Stay tuned, Like/Share/Sunscribe oh waitaminnuttet this ain’t noobtoob! til next time! 4
LennyB Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Bil, keep me posted on what you think of the duplicolor primer compared to the tamiya. I always found that the tamiya white seemed to go on thicker then their grey and I tend not to use it. 1

That was the duplicolour white on the body in the pic above, I found it to be a bit milky compared to Tamiya, but I’m thinking my temps were not perfect. It covered white plastic just fine and it did fill some of the fine sanding scratches that were there. That was only one coat on there, once I make some corrections to the body I’ll let you know how the following coats go. 1
Bullybeef Posted Thursday at 11:11 AM Author Posted Thursday at 11:11 AM Engine is finally finished and mounted to the chassis, now it’s time for more “exhausting” (see what I did there) work, I fabricated the tubing with cold formed bends and used to unknown source mufflers. Bent some turndowns and opened them up. Some small paint touchups and I can call this step complete 1
bobss396 Posted Thursday at 11:24 AM Posted Thursday at 11:24 AM I've used Duplicolor white primer. I warm it up and it shoots thinner and lays down well. I like the Tamiya white too.
Zippi Posted Thursday at 11:40 AM Posted Thursday at 11:40 AM The business end is looking nice there Bil.
NOBLNG Posted Thursday at 01:09 PM Posted Thursday at 01:09 PM The engine looks good Bil…so does the body. It could be just the photo, but in the second one it looks like the frame has a twist in it?
