Nothing fancy but the frame and suspension are now in paint, some extra fine detail paint will come soon, I’ve decided to go with an absence of chrome for this part of the build. These are the various shades used. As seen the engine has also been started. I used the steering box from the revell 40 Ford standard for its low profile and good header clearance. Next step will be proper fitment of the wheels as I won’t be using the mock-up wheels used in the past pictures. So I will start with the brake drum backing plates.

I love the use of various shades of black, dark grey, etc. Looks so much more realistic than all black.

There's also Nato Black, and Rubber Black.

Yup I have them all in my arsenal! I too enjoy the dark shades.

So what to do when the axles don’t fit the wheels you want to use? Simple hack off the axles and fabricate some new mounting points.

we start with the Monogram drums from the 32 roadster, the wheels from the Revell 29 ford pickup( newest release with the 40 ford steel wheels. These wheels are meant to be affixed with styrene pins and a rod on the rear so we improvise with good old polystyrene 1:16 rod to create the stub axles. Then we get some 1:8th tube to act as the receiver for the rod. Open the holes in the drums to accept the tube and bam now we have solid mounting points for our new wheels. The great thing about this modification is the adjustability for the track width of the wheels, a wider stance than the 9” ford rear axle from the Revell 32 series was desired. Currently stripping chrome from the wheel backs so that I can get the wheels painted and assembled for a proper mockup with the right wheels.

Did some pinning of the engine parts for mock up and it look like I’m going to have to lower the engine a tinch! But I’m excited that my wheels finally arrived from the tire shop!

Other than the upper radiator hoses are there any other reasons for lowering the engine as you have it mocked up now? My thought is that if everything else is fitting the way you want it, maybe just make a couple of stubs for the radiator hoses to mount too and use some tubing or wire for the hoses.

Thank you David, but a new pair of engine mounts is a way faster soloution for me. And after staring at it for some time I had felt the engine was sitting rather too high.

As long as the oil pan clears the ground it should be good. It's only plastic so it doesn't really matter but having owned a few Fords with the '32 style cross members and driveshaft tubes long ago the angle of the driveshaft too transmission angle catches my eye. I like how you have created your chassis and suspension here.

Thank you again for the kind words David, I’ve done a fair bit of research when it comes to the 32 and it’s iterations so I do try to get things looking as right as I can. I mean I could be a box stock builder but I don't think I’d be able to. 🥱😴 imho!

Dang stupid bench squirrels showed up again, I’m sure @TopherMcGinnis is sneaking in overnight and coaxing them in here🙄. Let me explain what happened here, I was searching through the archives for a certain part, then I found a part and said hey I remember that was going to go with this potential build and the next thing I know I’m harvesting transmissions and then I mock up another 32. I’m gonna have to rename my bench to “Snowballs”!
you will notice in the first photo a gathering of smallish white boxes, those are proposed builds which I have accumulated some parts for and have a rough mockup started… those are not stillborn ideas those are just waiting for the creative juices to flow in their direction again.

Haha...Great little story Bill.  Good looking kits in the stash and you've got a nice collection of those Mystery white boxes throughout the stash.

We really should start shooting those little rascals with paintballs! At least we'd have colorful streaks to follow 🤷🏼‍♂️ I've been a little tied up with the "other" bench lately.

Dunno about paint, but I’ve started tagging them, keep the useful Information for later…Now where was the box with all the special tricks?

Bil, you need to stop looking for that part and go do something else, that's when the part will show up. Hopefully you are there when it does and not Topher's squirrels.

I recall a few weeks ago my wife going crazy looking for her bottle of pills and it was in her hand. 😑

Thankfully I’m not that bad…Yet!

So does that mean you took your own part😲

I lose stuff all the time. Especially one-off parts I have made. Right after I make the replacement... the original shows up!
