3men2s Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 (edited) HELLO, DRAG FANS...I AM READY TO START A NEW PROJECT SOON AND DOING SOME RESERCH, I STARTED READING ABOUT THIS FAMOUS TRACK AND STARTED TO FILLED NOSTALGIC. MUST HAVE PHOTO OF THE 1:1 OF THE ERA. 4. ANY SCALE ACEPTED. 5. ENGINES,TIRES,PAINT SCHEME MUST BE OF THE SAME ERA( NO MODERN EQUIPMENT). 6. MUST BE PLASTICK OR RESIN. 7. Foxer Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Great idea! It's been about 45 years since I built a drag car .. think was an AMT Fiat and defiantly a 64 Fairlane and a Riviera that I actually have a photos of! Gonna have to thing on this for a suitable donor. Meanwhile, here's the photos just to get the mood going... and remember.. these are 45 year old builds when I was just learning about plastic tube glue!! heheh These would ACTUALLY qualify, but NOT in the running. Will be thinking of a new (old) build
Dragline Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I'm in of course. I have just the "secret weapon" kit at the ready. Bob F
3men2s Posted May 1, 2009 Author Posted May 1, 2009 Why ??????????? you know what....that's a dum rulenever mind that any scale acepted...welcome to the build.
Jantrix Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 (edited) 3. MUST HAVE PHOTO OF THE 1:1 OF THE ERA. I do have plans for a vintage 60's/70's drag racer however, I only have kit supplied decals. If you retain this #3 rule people will have to make thier own decals to complete the build and not everyone has the ability to do so. I recommend that you change the rule so that any fictional car will do as long as it looks like a period correct car. If this can be changed, add my name to the roster. Edited May 1, 2009 by Jantrix
Custom Hearse Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Well, durn it! I don't have anything that will fit in that category. I do have a sign though....
1320wayne Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Oh yeah! I think I can work this one into my schedule.

Jantrix Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Okay then pencil me in with a box stock build up of the drag version of this 68 Charger kit. I do believe that will put me in the right period yes?
roadhawg Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Would a car have actually had to race at Lions, or just any car from that era?
3men2s Posted May 3, 2009 Author Posted May 3, 2009 Okay then pencil me in with a box stock build up of the drag version of this 68 Charger kit. I do believe that will put me in the right period yes? yes!!!! find in google image a drag charger from the period, looking at the box photo the drag version in my opinion need some meat in the back, lool in your part box and find some slicks.....nascar tires work great for me...check and let me know. welcome masn and thanks for the support. IT'S THAT A HEMI
3men2s Posted May 3, 2009 Author Posted May 3, 2009 Would a car have actually had to race at Lions, or just any car from that era? YOU GOT IT, WHAT IM TRYING TO CAPTURE IS THE NOSTALGIC FEELING OF DRAG RACING. THAT TRACK WAS A FAVORITE OF ALL THE RACERS. ASK YOUR SELF WHY?.....IF YOU GET A CHANCE WATCH MORE AMERICAN GRAFFITI...YOU CAN GO INTO YOU TUBE AND FIND IT, IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE MOVIE. CHECK THE CARS, THE ATTITUDE, THE COMBINATIONS..... THA'T WHAT I WANT....AT THE END OF THIS BUILD WILL LIKE TO SEE DIFFERENT STUFF, CLASSES, COLOR FACTORY BACK CAR VS PRIVETEERS....CARS DONE AT YOU GARAGE AT HOME. WANT TO SEE OLD FUNNY CARS, DRAGSTERS FRONT AND BACK ENGINES. STOCKERS, GASSERS,ALTTEREDS, EVEN THE EXIVITION CARS LIKE THE WHEEL STANDERS JET CARS, TWINN ENGINES ETC...... IMPORTANT...NEEDS TO BE A DRAG CAR..(NO PRO STREETS, NO SHOWROOM MUSSLE CARS NO PRO MODS.) A PRO MOD MAY BE A 55 CHEVY BUT IT THAT CLASS WAS NOT IN THAT ERA.) A 55 GASSER, YES!!! HOPE I EXPLAIN MY SELF, THANKS FOR THE INTEREST. KEEP THEM COMING!!!!

2whl Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I like this build. Count me in. I actually raced at Lions in the late 60's before the draft got me. But remember, Garlits unveiled his rear engine car at the Winternats in '72, so not many rear engined rails got to run at Lions.

3men2s Posted May 5, 2009 Author Posted May 5, 2009 HERE IS MY PROJECT, ALMOST READY. NEED TO GET THE PAINTS AND TO THE SHOP
Foxer Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 (edited) Came on this as I was researching and posting for interest. I'm getting close to a car. Got a trip to the big city Friday and see what's there for rails. Hopefully some old dragster with a frame I can use on the local Burnside Auto Body's dragster. Dateline: May 6, 1962 There was a major crash this past month at Pratt & Whitney's Airstrip (weekend dragstrip) and some loony with a front blower went backwards into a crowd of Piper Cub executive airplanes on the adjoining runway. The wreck ended up at Burnside Auto Body in East Hartford and the owner can't afford the towing charges OR the Piper Cub damage. The body shop is in negotiations now for the 283 front blower engine and are thinking RACING! Edited May 7, 2009 by Foxer

Rick Voegelin Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Oh, man, sign me up! I've been on a Lions jag recently, and am currently working on an HO slot car version of the track circa 1968. But now I've got a reason/excuse to model the '55 Chevy that I raced there in the late '60s. We ran Bracket 2 at Orange County International Raceway on Saturday nights, and AHRA classes (F2 D/Hot Rod) at Lions on Sunday. I've got a couple of '55 Chevy post-sedan kits in the closet, so it's time to get them out of storage. Here's the prototype, photographed at OCIR around 1968. I've got some tiny snapshots of the car at Lions as well, and I'm still kickin' myself for trashing the Lions class winner's trophies during a move . . . Thanks! Rick V.
