oldcarfan Posted April 17 Posted April 17 I came across this in a Reel from a diorama maker. I would like to know the name of it, and if anyone has used one and if they work on styrene strip. If so, I'd like to get one.
rattle can man Posted April 18 Posted April 18 From a big box hardware place, the description says it will cut PVC and other molding materials. Since it is a chopping type of tool, not a saw, I presume it would crush tubing but work for solid stock.
Chris V Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Unless you have to cut very thick plastic profiles, I’d recommend getting a cutting station instead. Albeit significantly pricier, some cutting stations (like those from DSPIAE) have adjustable angle guides for precise and consistent cuts.
peteski Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Just like with any chopping tool, there is a chance on thicker cuts that the cut will not be perpendicular to the top/bottom surfaces of the part being cut.
Swamp Dog Posted April 18 Posted April 18 i have one and it works great on flat & square stock. not good for round tubing..its called a Miter Shear and i got mine from Amazon... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SFTHVBV?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title ......
rattle can man Posted April 19 Posted April 19 (edited) Home Depot website lists them. They list them as moulding shears. Edited April 19 by rattle can man added nomenclature
Bill Anderson Posted April 22 Posted April 22 I've found a modeler's mitre box (Micromart) works quite well for many cuts.
