from what i can tell the main differenced between the 70 and 71 is the grille and leading edge of the hood tail light pnel and both bumpers but the rest of the body and interior is the same
i figured i would used a amt 69 galaxie hood and grille and rework it and same with the back tail light panel
i want to make burt reynolds characters car from the movie white lightning i know thee were inconsistancies with the car in the film like at times is was a custom 500 and at points it was a ltd and then some interior shots were filmed in a 71 mustang  mainly when he was shown shifting to another gear same with the underhood shots of the engine was a mustang  due to the shock towers

a mercury cougar grille centre might work better for you. it is much closer looking to the 71 grille and might just need the front edge of the hood modded. the hood also you might also be able to use for the galaxie as it has the right shapes already. maybe a secong gen camaro or firebird could get you close to the rear lights

yeah after i posted this i thought that a amt 73 cougar grille and hood edge would work also
the second gen camaros tail lights would not work the 70 through 73  camaros had twin round tail lights on either side and 74-81 ones had wrap around ones
i know that second gen firebirds from 77-78 had long rectangular ones and a recessed license plate holder separating them while the 79-81 had a long single piece tail light i not sure about the 70-76 firebirds though as i never paid much attention as i am not a fan of the second or first gen firebirds

Just a heads up on the engine compartment pic. They probably used that same Mustang for the engine compartment shot as that engine compartment is from a Mustang or Fairlane/Torino, it's a unibody and has spring towers. The full size Fords were full frame cars with separate inner fenders.

Cool project! Looking forward to your build!

If you look closely, there is quite a lot that is different. Pretty much every panel, including the roof. The AMT 70 "Galaxie" started off as an LTD and has the more formal roofline of the 4-door pillarless hardtop, not the 4-door sedan. They also kept the LTD interior which has a fancier seat upholstery pattern than a Galaxie or Custom. The dash is quite a bit different between the 70 and 71-72 as well. The 69-70 is more driver centered with kind of a cockpit setup and the radio on the left. The 71-72 is more traditional.

I'm considering doing the same project, I just may build it up as the 1969 and be done with it.

Someone a while ago may have had the grille, etc in resin. Maybe The Missing Link casters?

It is and the owner is a member here but that kit isn't currently in production.

I have in the past contacted Kevin and bought an interior he wasn't doing right then so ???

Here's a link to their E-bay site but maybe someone here could get you in touch with him more directly on this board.  ,IIRC, his last name is Lutz [?]

I saved them as a seller. I did see them at the NNL East, didn't think of asking them about the 1971 kit.
