My first try at making molding was for some side trim. I used a scriber and a straight edge to clean out the middle of some flat styrene. (pics 1-2)

My second method is cutting a shape into the edge of a razor blade and scraping along the flat styrene. Guides are sometimes helpful and or needed.(pics 3-4)IMG_20201212_081517697_HDR.jpg.b469e373d9ac6cb0b672a294d62acfef.jpgIMG_20210815_185300949_HDR.jpg.b1d9ab9955b2ead778203f637aad169d.jpg

The AMT SnapFast Plus (and the assembled dealer promos) of the C/K 1500 extended cab trucks had the proper trim molded on the cab. The C/K 3500 series dually kits (and promos) do not have the side trim, which is prototypically correct.

You can try to recreate the trim with styrene strip, but it is a multi-grooved shape and will take a bit of work to get it correct.

Another option, and one that I have tried, is to make a mold of the side trim from one of the standard cab kits out of RTV silicone, and then cast the trim pieces in 5 minute epoxy. The trim pieces will be fragile and a bit fiddly, but they can be glued onto the body with more epoxy or superglue. You'll need cut & paste a few pieces to make up the correct length, but this might be less work than making the trim by hand.

Of course, you can always start over with the proper snap kit or promo cab. The promos are all over eBay and are cheaper than the SnapFast kit, if that helps.

Plastruct and Evergreen both offer various sizes of plastic in strips than can be used to simulate body trim. Try laying out your design using thin masking tape as a guide for the trim in the desired width. With the tape as a guide, you can glue your moldings either above or below the tape however it works best for your design. I have used Tamiya extra thin liquid cement; there are other brands that should work just as well.  As an example:

Do any of you have just the cab they would be willing to sell off of one of these promos?
