IBuildOneFortyEight Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Placed an order for this kit. I’m looking at doing a two tone paint scheme. Gloss Black and with either a Candy Irish Green or Candy Purple Is anybody familiar with or have they used Aoshimo tires and rims. The bigger question is what size tires should I be looking for a nova? 15, 16, 17
Mark Posted May 28 Posted May 28 I'd get the kit in hand before buying any wheel/tire setup. It's based on a stock Nova. It might be "cheated" a bit to allow for the tires already included, but if it isn't stock in the area of wheel/tire fitment, it's pretty close to stock. The stock Novas came with 13" or 14" wheels depending on which engine it came with, and the tires weren't wide at all. 1
Exotics_Builder Posted May 28 Posted May 28 I've used Aoshima wheels on previous builds. One thing to consider is that they wheels are 1/24 and the model applied to is 1/25. Effectively, the 19 inch wheel shown in your photo would scale out to about a 20 inch on the model. The wheels/tires are also wider in many cases and could be a problem for fitment in the wheel wells, particularly the front. As Mark already said, it is best to have the model in hand and measure your clearances before making a wheel choice. Here's a 66 El Camino with Aoshima 18 inch wheels used. 2
IBuildOneFortyEight Posted May 28 Author Posted May 28 Thank you Mark and Exotics. Truly appreciate the insight. I did a Google search for a 65 nova wheel and it did say 14” to 15”. I’ll wait till the kit arrives.
Oldriginal86 Posted May 28 Posted May 28 There isn’t a bunch of room in the wheel wells for any tire much larger. Plan on tubs in the back and a subframe in the front with custom inner fenders. Might be easier to use the chassis from the ‘66 Nova.
Mark Posted May 29 Posted May 29 '66 underbody is pretty much the same, as the '66/'67 was just a holding action while the '68 was developed in conjunction with the new for '67 Camaro. Really, one of the companies doing one of these early Novas ought to have developed a full-on pro touring version, with wider rear tubs and a fabricated front subframe with Mustang II or a fabricated tubular A-arm setup. And, an LS swap to bring it right up to the present day.

TransAmMike Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Iceman collections has various tires in different sizes and widths. Check out his wheels also because they will fit the wheels. 1

IBuildOneFortyEight Posted May 31 Author Posted May 31 This is one of the color schemes that I am considering. It is Irish Candy Green on Black. The other is a Candy Purple on Black. BTW…I love these rims on this car. If anyone knows of an aftermarket supplier they has these let me know.
