Technics Posted May 29 Posted May 29 (edited) I went in wanting to do a weathered paint surface look. I mixed colours directly in the airbrush pot to try to get some shade variations, have fun and break away from the stiff ( and usually painful for me ) showroom finish desire / need / ultimate often disappointment. Discover excitement in other approaches, subjects, etc. Ā ModelĀ -Ā Land Rover Series III - RevellĀ A newly serviced runner, thatās not had any bodywork completed.. and proud to be it. Details -Ā None, completely out of the box build, I left several parts off the finalĀ as I feel it doesnāt need anything more.Ā Ā ModificationsĀ -Ā None, completely out of the box build! A first for my ācomebackā Ā Pros My most weathered lookĀ attempt First chipped paint attempt First āmetalā finish attempt Fought the urge to clean up enamel washĀ Incredibly happy! Looking back at the photos I canāt believe itās my build.Ā Ā Cons Nothing really, Could be ādirtā weathered too but I feel itās so characteristic already itās not needed. iamsuperdan Posted May 29 Posted May 29 That looks amazing. The "metalwork" looks exactly like a diecast. Excellent job making the plastic look like aluminum. Try some outdoor shots in the garden or something. I'll bet natural light makes it look even more realistic! Ā 1 1
OldSkool81 Posted May 29 Posted May 29 I've been following this W.I.P. for a good while, and I think you absolutely nailed the weathering! I work as a mechanic at a tool, equipment and heavy machinery rental business, and I regularly see different kinds of materials and metals age and weather, in different ages and states, and I can really say that yours is spot on!!! 1
kelson Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Absolutely amazing work, would love to see it in a outdoor setting!!!.š 1
espo Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Very realistic looking body finish looks very abused and ignored.Ā Ā 1
STU111 Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Oh yeah, that old Landie has seen a few beaten tracks for sure! Superb work on the weathering. šš» Iāve got this one in my stash and your build has certainly inspired me to build mine in a similar fashion, because letās face it, they donāt look quite right if theyāre all shiny!š 1
Technics Posted June 2 Author Posted June 2 Thank you everyone! This will snowball into many non "perfect" showroom finish projects as it“s all I ever aspired to do since the 80s.
ncbuckeye67 Posted June 3 Posted June 3 I can't believe that is your first attempt at a weathered build. It looks so real! A far better effort than my first attempt. 1
Technics Posted June 4 Author Posted June 4 @ncbuckeye67Ā Thank you bud. Yes it really is. But Iāve been building models since the 80s, collecting / studying reference photos trying to understand and indulging in all the amazing info and videos out there today and ease of acquiring materials. Iām super excited! Ā My next project is under NASCARās WIP thread. Ā Thank you everyone!Ā

Technics Posted July 1 Author Posted July 1 (edited) At a national event this weekend I was fortune enough to get some recognition and place second in a category outside of the official classes of the event. The event had nearly 650 entries this year. My project was very well received and Iām generally very inspired!Ā Edited July 1 by Technics 4
