Technics Posted May 29 Posted May 29 (edited) I went in wanting to do a weathered paint surface look. I mixed colours directly in the airbrush pot to try to get some shade variations, have fun and break away from the stiff ( and usually painful for me ) showroom finish desire / need / ultimate often disappointment. Discover excitement in other approaches, subjects, etc. Model - Land Rover Series III - Revell A newly serviced runner, that’s not had any bodywork completed.. and proud to be it. Details - None, completely out of the box build, I left several parts off the final as I feel it doesn’t need anything more. Modifications - None, completely out of the box build! A first for my “comeback” Pros My most weathered look attempt First chipped paint attempt First “metal” finish attempt Fought the urge to clean up enamel wash Incredibly happy! Looking back at the photos I can’t believe it’s my build. Cons Nothing really, Could be “dirt” weathered too but I feel it’s so characteristic already it’s not needed. iamsuperdan Posted May 29 Posted May 29 That looks amazing. The "metalwork" looks exactly like a diecast. Excellent job making the plastic look like aluminum. Try some outdoor shots in the garden or something. I'll bet natural light makes it look even more realistic! 1
OldSkool81 Posted May 29 Posted May 29 I've been following this W.I.P. for a good while, and I think you absolutely nailed the weathering! I work as a mechanic at a tool, equipment and heavy machinery rental business, and I regularly see different kinds of materials and metals age and weather, in different ages and states, and I can really say that yours is spot on!!! 1
kelson Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Absolutely amazing work, would love to see it in a outdoor setting!!!.👌 1
STU111 Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Oh yeah, that old Landie has seen a few beaten tracks for sure! Superb work on the weathering. 👍🏻 I’ve got this one in my stash and your build has certainly inspired me to build mine in a similar fashion, because let’s face it, they don’t look quite right if they’re all shiny!😁 1
Technics Posted June 2 Author Posted June 2 Thank you everyone! This will snowball into many non "perfect" showroom finish projects as it´s all I ever aspired to do since the 80s.
ncbuckeye67 Posted June 3 Posted June 3 I can't believe that is your first attempt at a weathered build. It looks so real! A far better effort than my first attempt. 1
Technics Posted June 4 Author Posted June 4 @ncbuckeye67 Thank you bud. Yes it really is. But I’ve been building models since the 80s, collecting / studying reference photos trying to understand and indulging in all the amazing info and videos out there today and ease of acquiring materials. I’m super excited! My next project is under NASCAR’s WIP thread. Thank you everyone!
