gtx6970 Posted Friday at 02:23 PM Posted Friday at 02:23 PM Im currently restoring a real deal 1972 Ford F100 Ranger pickup for a local guy 4wd short bed truck And would like to build a model replica for his desk I see there is a 1972 Kit avail, BUT it long bed 2wd I see there is a short 4wd kit,,,but its an F250 what are my options Are any of the kits a short bed ? Any of them half ton 4wd , or Any aftermkt people making the half ton 4wd pieces ? 5
gtx6970 Posted Friday at 02:26 PM Author Posted Friday at 02:26 PM This kit has the correct trim style I need But its long bed 2wd 2
gtx6970 Posted Friday at 02:32 PM Author Posted Friday at 02:32 PM This is 4wd , but its an F250 and I think , Long bed truck 2
Beans Posted Friday at 02:46 PM Posted Friday at 02:46 PM This would get you the short bed. 69-72 all have the same body just different grills. you would need a 72 grill. For the 4wd you would probably need to scavenge from a 4wd kit. 2
StevenGuthmiller Posted Friday at 04:47 PM Posted Friday at 04:47 PM The 4x4 parts can also be had in the ‘70 F-100 kit. Steve 2

Because Fireball has those with the proper Ford hubs. As already pointed out, the Moebius '69 shortbed plus the '70 F-100 4x4 will get you most of the way there. What engine is he running?
gtx6970 Posted Friday at 05:48 PM Author Posted Friday at 05:48 PM Is the side trim molded in the body on the upper trim level kits or separate glue on pieces ? I could maybe get by with the short bed kit and add my own trim and buy a 3d printed 72 Grill But its the 1/2 ton 4wd stuff that is an issue I would really like to make this build just like the actual truck , If at all possible

Is the 70 F100 an actual 1/2 ton 4wd? Box art shows 3/4 ton 8 lug wheels No it will be stock white steel wheels and beenie style hubcaps Rims on it are simply to make it roll while under construction Truck is 360 4spd 1
Beans Posted Friday at 05:53 PM Posted Friday at 05:53 PM (edited) Here is a picture of the above mentioned 4x4 kit (the 1970 but with a grill from the 69 kit). There is no separate trim in the box as i recall. The lower trim is molded in and I had to sand it off as i recall. The molded upper trim can be chromed and painted to match the trim. I sanded it down a little because I didn't want the trim. Ironically, I turned this into a 2 WD. I ended up using all the 4x4 parts on other things or I would send them to you. gtx6970 Posted Friday at 05:56 PM Author Posted Friday at 05:56 PM (edited) This might work, If I can come up with the 4wd stuff I can add a 3d printed 1972 grill easy enough Provided the upper and lower trim is on the body in this particular kit Edited Friday at 05:57 PM by gtx6970 2
Beans Posted Friday at 05:56 PM Posted Friday at 05:56 PM I don't remember if this kit came with the 8 lug wheels as for some reason I remember getting some from Fireball. I can look through my parts box later and see if I still have the kit wheels. 1

Edit: It also has the upper and lower trim molded in, if that is what you’re looking for. It should be relatively easy to shorten the box and frame. Edited Friday at 10:54 PM by NOBLNG 3

It's weird because the pic that was posted above (and a few that I've seen online) shows what looks like 8 lugs on the box art. 1

I don’t know if it ever contained F250 parts? My kit has the proper 1/2 ton front suspension. As in coil springs instead of leafs. 2
gtx6970 Posted Friday at 10:57 PM Author Posted Friday at 10:57 PM Thanks all. Looks like I can combine these 2 and get exactly what I need 3
meechum68 Posted Friday at 11:20 PM Posted Friday at 11:20 PM So I saw this thread and ended up buying a kit today because .. well these old fords are awesome trucks! Plus your truck your doing is beautiful! That paint is fantastic @gtx6970
Radretireddad Posted Sunday at 06:15 AM Posted Sunday at 06:15 AM (edited) Super simple Bill. Combine the 1/2 ton 4WD suspension and drivetrain from the 1970 lwb F100 4x4 with the frame and bed from the 1972 1/2 ton swb 2wd kit. Everything glues together. This is a 1972 sport custom 4x4 shorty. The wheels are from the 1966 4wd long bed and the tires are Round 2 Firestone all terrains. It also makes a cool 4th gen conversion. You’ll need the NP435 trans from one of the F250 4x4 kits because the transmissions that come in the 1/2 ton kits are not accurate for a 4x4. Heads up, all the Moebius 1/2 ton kits need to have the rear ride height corrected like the one shown here because they sit to low. I can do a simple tutorial for anyone that’s interested. So there is a 1972 Shortbed truck made ? if thats the case it would save me buying the two 1970 Kits above then buying a seperate or 3d printed grill
gtx6970 Posted Sunday at 02:55 PM Author Posted Sunday at 02:55 PM Is this kit a short or long bed truck ? 1
