mrmike Posted June 14 Posted June 14 With the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans today, I decided to start my Ford GT model build. My paint will be Tamiya TS-50 Mica Blue. I am undecided if I want to use the center stripes as I do like the car with and without them. If I do use them, I'll go with the white stripes. 4
mrmike Posted June 16 Author Posted June 16 I assembled the wheels and tires and these white parts are headed to the sink for a bath.
mrmike Posted June 16 Author Posted June 16 I found this article in Scale Auto to be very informative. It is on the assembly of the Tamiya Ford GT which I have. It is in the April 2019 issue of Scale Auto No. 250. 2 2
mrmike Posted July 2 Author Posted July 2 While I had the paintbooth up and running, I painted the Ford GT. Looks good, but there are many body parts to this model! I hope got them all! 6
mrmike Posted July 8 Author Posted July 8 I went to assemble the body of the Ford GT and I ruined the body. I may soak the body in Easy Off Oven Cleaner, assemble the body as best as I can and repaint the body. This rots!
mrmike Posted July 10 Author Posted July 10 I took apart the Ford GT and I started reassembling the Ford GT this afternoon. The body will assembled and covered with Easy-Off Oven Cleaner to removed the paint and repainted in the same color. Tamiya TS-50 Mica Blue. 2
beeRS Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Shame you have to re-paint this. It looked okay in the pictures. I am part way through the initial build of my GT. The close fit of all the body panels lead me to think it would be a good idea to mask off all the glued contact surfaces before painting. I think the paint film thickness in these areas might upset the fit. Especially the fit of the rear quarter panel to the roof.
mrmike Posted July 11 Author Posted July 11 It looked great in the pictures before I started assembly. And, thank you for the tips on assemble. I will take them to heart!
mrmike Posted Monday at 03:45 PM Author Posted Monday at 03:45 PM Since I am having so many problems with the body of my Ford GT, it is going back in the box for now and I will start a new project soon. Stay tuned!
