Earl Marischal Posted June 18 Posted June 18 I’ve just watched the film and I know very little about NASCAR, so how authentic is it? I realise it’s a comedy so presumably everything is exaggerated for effect? Thanks steve
JollySipper Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, is a documentary film which represents the goings-on inside the NASCAR community with great attention to detail and certain authenticity unmatched by any other film.......... 1 8
Little Timmy Posted June 19 Posted June 19 If there is anything authentic in this film ... it's totally by accident. 2 1
bobss396 Posted June 19 Posted June 19 I'll call it more accurate than Days of Thunder. I raced under the NASCAR banner for 4 years, I was a licensed driver (limited late model, bomber, street stock) from 1981 to 1987. The NASCAR officials have a very low tolerance for on the track nonsense. This is something that the film makers seem to miss. 1 1

In DoT during a race scene 'Cole' is following a Thunderbird and suddenly it becomes a Monte Carlo and we are not going to notice??? They switch tracks during a race. Not sure how that works.....red flag a race, load the cars in trucks and restart at another track?? All kinds of wrong in the film CLAIMING to be serious......while Talladega makes no claim other than funny. 1
Fat Brian Posted June 19 Posted June 19 That's one of my favorite movies and parts of it were filmed in my area. The school and gas station when Ricky was a kid and the road where the car chase happened are all within 10 or 15 minutes of my house. I think Bob was right in that the NASCAR fun police would have had issues with some of the on track antics.

I lived in Charlotte during DoT filming and another NASCAR film, Stroker Ace!! Stroker has a model car connection. The Monogram 83 Thunderbird is a model of the Stroker car and NOT a Cup car. The Cup car was not finalized yet so they had to use the Stroker car. More than anyone wanted to know.
iamsuperdan Posted June 19 Posted June 19 It's not authentic at all, nor is it supposed to be. It'a a parody, satire. It's 100% supposed to be a film that makes you laugh, and that's it. There's no high level message, there's no deep meaning. There was no attenpt to be accurate. Anyone watching this and expecting accuracy is the same sort of person who watches Austin Powers and thinks that's exactly how London was in the 60s. Or reads Harry Potter and thinks it's real.

The school is in Cramerton off 8th Ave, and the car chase was filmed on Hwy 16 just after it crosses the river into Gaston county. They've changed the layout of the road so you can't drive on most of what was filmed now. 1
