69NovaYenko Posted July 11 Posted July 11 (edited) Has the Edelbrock Smoky Yunick Ram SY-1 SY1 intake manifold small Chevy 350 ever been kitted or resin cast? Edited July 11 by 69NovaYenko add photo
Dragline Posted July 11 Posted July 11 I am almost positive I have seen this in plastic at some point. As to where I saw it, I could not say. It is certainly a rare piece in the real world and worth quite a bit. Pure race single plane manifolds from the 60s got pretty scarce some years ago. The hoarders of the world will pay whatever it takes to get anything associated with Smokey of course, but I am pretty sure these were small batch even new in the 1:1 world. I have a small tray with nothing but manifolds in it. I'll take a look but I wouldn't hold out too much hope. But I am pretty sure it has been made in styrene. Probably old MPC or AMT stock car kits are where I saw this. But I've been wrong before breakfast this morning so.... 1

Provided you have a mind to do some trading 🙂 1
Dragline Posted July 12 Posted July 12 No luck on the.manifold front brother. I do have quite a few nice ones, but no SY1's
rattle can man Posted July 12 Posted July 12 no luck in my parts stash. If anyone comes up with a kit source I can check against my stash spreadsheet. Any Chevy/ Chevy engined kits will have engines swapped out for something else. I'm not a Chevy engine guy.
69NovaYenko Posted July 13 Author Posted July 13 Well I knew it was a long shot but I wanna thank you folks for checking any way
Straightliner59 Posted July 13 Posted July 13 I agree with Bob. I am sure I've seen one. I think maybe from an early MPC stock car, too. Dang it! Now I have to go dig!😄 1
Mark Posted Sunday at 01:51 PM Posted Sunday at 01:51 PM You might take a look at the "crossfire" twin throttle body fuel injection intakes from some early Eighties GM car kits. I know MPC Camaros and Firebirds had them, AMT '83 Camaro probably had it, MPC '82 Corvette should have it but does not. Reworking the top of one of those to fit the single carb should end up looking very close to what you want. 2
Dragline Posted Sunday at 04:58 PM Posted Sunday at 04:58 PM After some thought (It's not just a hat rack) I might ask Tim Boyd. The man is an encyclopedia of models and kits. Pick Tim's brain and you may score. PM him here on this board. He's an affable guy. If he can't find it, then it may not be available.
bytownshaker Posted Sunday at 09:44 PM Posted Sunday at 09:44 PM The Revell 69 Z28 intake manifold can be easily modified to resemble the manifold your looking for. 3

That was my thought, when I found one, while diiging for the one I though I was looking for.
Mike C Posted Monday at 05:22 PM Posted Monday at 05:22 PM I was watching a video about him on YouTube. He sure knew how to get around NASCAR rules. If it didn't say "you can't", he did it. He sure got them to rewrite the rule book many times. 2
Dragline Posted Tuesday at 11:10 AM Posted Tuesday at 11:10 AM Smokey is/was a fascinating man. Engineer-provocateur all in one. And his genius in dealing with a rulebook is without peer. There are several YouTube vids covering his life. They're all pretty good.
