gtx6970 Posted Wednesday at 04:58 PM Posted Wednesday at 04:58 PM I recently painted a Moebius AFX Dodge body. And I guess the primer I used - ( Rustoleum - a new to me brand ) and painted over it with Duplicolor touchup spray Its crazed the body enough I am not happy Not sure if the primer or the top coat caused it. Any coming back from this or just get a new body / hood / new kit and relegate this one to the parts pile ?
Fat Brian Posted Wednesday at 05:05 PM Posted Wednesday at 05:05 PM I would try to strip it first and see if the plastic got etched or if it was just a paint reaction. If you can get it to strip then you can better decide if you can save it or not.
stitchdup Posted Wednesday at 06:28 PM Posted Wednesday at 06:28 PM you might be lucky enough if you used enamel primer. i dont get rustoleum where i live so dont know what type of paint is but i've had the same happen with plastikote primer and duplicolour. i was lucky enough it was just the paint that crazed, but even if the plastic has crazed you can probably save it using filler primer and repeated sanding like printed bodies
gtx6970 Posted Wednesday at 08:03 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 08:03 PM Thanks all I'll drop it in the strip tank and go from there Im my gut tells me its an enamel primer I'll usually use Duplicolor . But they were out of stock so bought a different brand, and it bit me in the buttocks lesson learned and will not happen again
Dave G. Posted Wednesday at 09:26 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:26 PM (edited) Rustoleum primer is enamel ( I conducted that test a couple of years ago and returned the can, since the store employee told me it was lacquer). Duplicolor is lacquer, and a fairly hot lacquer. The hope is the lacquer just crinkled the primer and didn't go deeper down to the plastic. Edited Wednesday at 09:30 PM by Dave G.
