Mothersworry Posted July 26 Posted July 26 (edited) An original kit that I got from Stoners Hobby Shop in Wyandotte Michigan back in the day, late sixties maybe early seventies. The TV camera is a quite fairly accurate replica of an RCA TK-11A circa 1952. Made a few changes to the camera and the lane lights. WXYZ-TV is channel 7 in the Detroit area, also the "D.D.W." on the fire extinguisher refers to Detroit Drag Way...RIP. Edited July 26 by Mothersworry 10
plasticprime Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Terrific job on the camera! It was a monochrome, single tube, image-orthicon camera. Misty moons ago when I was in production, we had color Ikegami HL-79As which were 3-tube plumbicons. Even after we had transitioned to 3-chip Sony cameras, some clients preferred the old Ikegamis for their rendering of flesh tones.
slusher Posted Sunday at 01:26 PM Posted Sunday at 01:26 PM fantastic camera 🎥 and television item.. May I ask if it was hard to get the camera 🎥 together?

Thank you fer yer comment, The tooling for this kit wuz done around 1963 or 1964 so it is a bit primitive compared to more modern tooling but this being an original issue the parts are as crisp as they can be. The camera is a pretty good replica of an RCA camera but the Seams are rather prominent. A bit of filling & finishing will take care of that, but to make my build a little more accurate I added a strip of plastic stock across the top of the camera body and a piece of thin sheet plastic to the front of the camera behind the lens carousel. This effectively hides the seams. I also removed the molded in TV station plaques on the camera and added the WXYZ-TV station logos in their place, these were made from plastic strip, painted gloss white with microscale decals and a clear coat. Ya gotta be careful cleaning up sum of the lens fer the camera as they are mighty itty bitty and could easily escape never to be seen again. Advanced CRS not withstanding...I seem to recall that Ragtop Man wuz with me when my Grampa took us to Stoners Hobby Shop where I got this kit more than 50 years ago...how bout that Robert, you remember?
sidcharles Posted Monday at 12:40 PM Posted Monday at 12:40 PM interesting technology. everything in this kit can now be done with a smart phone.* *except the "fun" part
