Wolf Posted yesterday at 08:19 AM Posted yesterday at 08:19 AM I just recently finished building Tamiya’s 1/12th Yamaha XV1600 Road Star Custom. I used some of the Hobby Design detail set specifically for this kit and added aftermarket fasteners from various different sources throughout the build. I also replaced all the moulded rivet detail for the seats, backrest, and saddlebags by drilling holes and installing Tameo’s 0.9mm rivets purchased from Spot Models. The paint scheme was done using Tamiya’s spray can lacquers Pearl White and Pure Metallic Red decanted and shot through the airbrush. I used the kit provided decals and masks. To give the model a little more bling I masked off and sprayed the retro white walls on the tires with Tamiya’s Fine White Primer after I had installed the spoked wheels as I didn’t want to flex the tires over the rims and risk cracking the white walls. Tamiya’s bike kits are a real joy to build and I highly recommend them to anyone wanting to build a bike. Cheers, Wolf 8
DJMar Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago She's a beauty! You nailed the look of the 1:1 bike right on the head.
BrianC Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Very nice Wolf, are you bringing it to the October show in Vancouver? I hope so!
shoopdog Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Wow! That looks like it should be sitting on a showroom floor.
BKF Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Beautiful Bike and I love the color choices! I just recently bought the Tamiya Yamaha XV1000. I'll be my first Tamiya and motorcycle kit.
Leo64 Posted 35 minutes ago Posted 35 minutes ago That turned out really nice, you did a nice job. It looks like a real version. Looks like a typical Tamiya great kit. I bought the non-custom version of that kit when it came out because it was the closest I could get to the Yamaha Vstar 1100 I had at the time I added a Harley front fairing with cut down windshield, leather saddlebags and a Corbin custom seat set. I happened to live in the same town where Corbin's was to be at the factory to see the seat made and custom fitted. Steve A.
