Technics Posted September 11 Posted September 11 (edited) Porsche 356 B/C Carrera 2 Fujimi Enthusiast kit Loose plan that comes to mind is picking up where I left off using techniques from on my Land Rover III build. Letting the mind wander. Looking into Rod Emory’s outlaw projects as my main inspiration. Likely not using the bumpers, use of leather hood straps. A absolute pleasure to build. What a kit. Slow assembly sessions have begun. It might look like not much but there´s dozens of parts assembled here to make up the frame already. Edited September 11 by Technics 16
beeRS Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Wow. I love those outlaw 356 pics. Great inspiration. Looking forward to seeing the progress. These Fujimi kits are super rare now. Did Fujimi ever re-release these after the 80s/90s? 1
NOBLNG Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Cool pics!😎 I have the Testors version of this kit so I will definitely follow along.🙂 1 1
Technics Posted September 14 Author Posted September 14 @beeRS I don’t believe they re released the 356 coupe.. Hence their current value. Here’s a nice a4 included in the box which shows an array of kits they had in the period. Some have been re released. 2 1
meechum68 Posted September 14 Posted September 14 Ok... now I have to find one of these for my stash! I love the curves, and the pics gave some fantastic ideas of how to build it. Gonna follow this!! 1
Technics Posted September 22 Author Posted September 22 (edited) Plucked away, cut, modified and permanently fused the stance in. The wheels sit on the actual protruding lugs, so those are not fixed. Slowly working the body removing a few holes and adding a few based on a references. Sanded down a styrene scrap to somewhat resemble a race / cup mirror style shape. Made some mistakes already but enjoying the slow roll forward Unsure still if the project will be “painted” or raw metal. But I tried a few initial colours. I liked the deep red edging into purple - nocturnal red. I unscientifically mixed a few of the colours into pot and sprayed at a low pressure in an uneven pattern. Realising it’s more the right browny red then my preferred red in the photos. Simple test weathered the strip afterwards removing the paint I just layed. I will likely cut away the lower rear bumper area, as it extends lower then the bodyside. Edited September 22 by Technics 4
NOBLNG Posted September 22 Posted September 22 I wondered whether the bodies on these were steel or aluminum so I went looking online. It appears only some of the very early ones had hand built aluminum bodies. Here is a good site for info: https://www.porsche356registry.org/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=579966&module_id=739250 1

They had split windshields and were quite different to the production cars. Here's the one in the Revs Institute here in Naples... 3 1
Technics Posted October 12 Author Posted October 12 Had some bench time and been working away trying to prep the body while I contemplate the direction of the project still. I made way for a center fuel filler and removed some oddities. Primer and sanding. 4
Badge73 Posted October 14 Posted October 14 Beautiful start to this one, mate! Love your photography, what you using to take pics? 1
Technics Posted October 15 Author Posted October 15 @Badge73 Thanks alot! I’m certainly trying my best with all aspects. I simply use a iPhone 15. The lighting at my desk is of daylight temperature. I vary the background in the moment what suits the project. I do shoot outside on concrete during mock ups or on a piece of paper as a backdrop whenever you see just white. Thanks again.
Technics Posted October 17 Author Posted October 17 (edited) Think I’m up to x10 primer mists and sanding. I’m improving, but it sure is time consuming. Rewarding! Everything’s a placeholder, two tow hooks, auxiliary lamps, one of three center caps I’m considering. Exhaust was unfortunately chipped right at the tips so it rendered it unusable. Have some unfinished tubes in temporary. Still missing it’s motor and some guts. I shot my base of metal. For the hell of it I tried something like 70/30 MLT thinner to paint, no issues at all. I’m following the Land Rover paint project procedure. Plan is for it to be more controlled however. Potentially keeping it majority metal finish which I’ll work with once’s it’s cured and maybe yellow stripe over the front fenders? White meatball on the side or off center in the rear. Kanada Kustoms Posted October 17 Posted October 17 The auxiliary lights look really cool. Are you planning to weather the chrome paint to look like your inspiration pics?
