1/24 CHAPARRAL 2 GOLD STAR, Nassau 1964

Hello, bought recently an AMT Chaparral (2) 1/24 kit, and found that it is not based in the COX body, the only one I knew about... In fact I do have an HRM Chaparral 2 kit (based on the Cox body); and, I also found that this AMT body is perfect to be used as a base for a special car, the Nassau 1964 GOLD STAR version I would like very much to have but, as to make it from the HRM/COX body would need some heavy modifications, I did put the idea in the "freezer"... in that time I remember to see somewhere some wheels that would fit but, as then I did not know about the Starfighter decals for it, I did forget these wheels "location"... Is there anybody who could help me with this problem?

I don't know about the wheels (I'm interested because I've got the same kit) but maybe this may help your efforts:

I've been scouring the Falconer & Nye book for info on those wheels and can't find much. The earlier version of the Chaparral used a wheel that they cast, based on the Lotus 19 "wobbly wheel". When Chevrolet built the Corvette GSIIb (the second photo in the original post above) using the disc type wheels, Chaparral switched to those, but found the brakes overheating due to lack of ventilation. Then the now-familiar spoked wheel was designed by Frank Boehm (an engineer at Chevrolet) but made by Arlington Industries for Chaparral. They started using those wheels at the beginning of 1965.

I have no idea if those disc wheels have ever been kitted, so I can't help you there, sorry.

Thank you, Steve "Junk", Yes, I already new the Starfighter decals which I intend to buy if I find the wheels, or if I decide/dare to scratch ones... for now I will contact them to see if they have any clue about or where to find it... I also have(?) the possibility to ask Jason from Jack Modelling to make it, but, if in the beginning, he did work very well, he even made me some special wheels for an extra 5 Euros, nowadays it is very difficult to contact him, via eBay or via email... I can explain this particular "topic" if you (or to all modellers, of course) want me to, as I have some valuable information about wire wheels for Ferraris...

I think the order of the two images should be inverted, as in the second, there are some suggested places where to open holes, and in the first the holes are now open...

I wonder if you could "dummy" up some wheels by finding some 4 hole Halibrands (if they even exist in 1/25) and a backing plate so you can't peer through.  Let us know how the good fight goes.
