Revell F-18-E Aftermarket Centerline Pylon?

Clicking through Scalemates, I came across an aftermarlet centerline pylon bit for the Revell F-18-E kit. I plan to start this kit soon, and wonder whether or why this would be needed.

Sorry...I think you can disregard. It looks like that's for additional weaponry installations, which I would not be installing. This would be my first military aircraft build, and my being a dope about things related thereto will become more evident as time goes on.

You gotta start somewhere, and you'll learn plenty as you go.

Just jump in with both feet, and do your research.

There's no shortage of online aircraft forums loaded with all kinds of fascinating stuff.

I agree with Ace. While there are some modelers here who also model aircraft or other non-automotive subject, we are geared here towards automotive models.  For models other than automotive, for best advice I would suggest joining one  of the many online forums dedicated to those subjects.

I've been building military aircraft and armor for decades, and there are plenty of online spaces that have the resources you need to help get you started with the subject. Even though they're all "just" plastic kits, it's a different kind of modeling in a lot of ways.

I am, and was, aware. This was but one (the first) resource I checked. I found my answer on the Scale Model Addict forum.

Hi, Mike.  Check out the IPMS (International Plastic Modelers Society) forum or Military Modelers Forum.  Either place deals a lot with military aircraft builds and modeling.  They might even be able to offer some advice on the ordnance the F-18 carries.  I do military softskin models as well as civilian pieces and have found that more than one forum helps when I need advice.

Personally I would find another forum specializing in the subject for which I'm seeking info.  I am also  a model railroader, and while I might occasionally post something model railroad related here, I also belong to a model railroad forum for when I need model railroad assistance.
