DoctorLarry Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Has anybody used a clear coat over Revell chrome spray? It says acrylic on the can and I have noticed it will rub off if handled. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Can-Con Posted October 27 Posted October 27 I've had good luck by not touching it for a week or two and then brushing on a thin coat of Future. Seems most people on here have the patience to wait that long though. I also understand some have had good luck using the Spaz Stixs clear they have for their chrome paint but I don't have access to any to try it myself. That's how I did the bumpers on this truck. 5 1
DoctorLarry Posted October 27 Author Posted October 27 That would make sense because Future is an Acrylic product. I may try spraying it and see what happens. Thanks for the tip. 1

Thanks for the tip. If you put it on heavy it WILL dull the chrome effect. BTW, I do have some odds and ends that I had experimented with when I got the stuff and have been sitting for several months to a year that I have handles with no affect but I doubt anyone is going to spray them that far ahead and let them sit for 6-8 + months 😉
Jon Haigwood Posted October 27 Posted October 27 I have been playing the waiting game with a few days in the dehydrator. I started putting it on heavy until I got a smooth but found it still dulls over time. Now I spray it in short bursts and so far it looks better but time will tell.

Wickersham Humble Posted Sunday at 06:23 PM Posted Sunday at 06:23 PM I just airbrushed Molotow 'chrome' on black primered 'Moon discs' (from two old Mono 1/24 kits; Green Hornet) and I can vouch for the fact that it shouldn't be touched for a goodly period; got a fingerprint immediately within 24-hours drying! I have a complete set of bumpers, grilles, etc from an old AMT Pontiac LeMans kit I'm rebuilding that need the 'replating' treatment, and wondered about clear coating them for durability. Murphy's Law, you know... Future, or whatever it goes by now, is acrylic and water-based; should work??? Wick
Swamp Dog Posted Monday at 07:36 PM Posted Monday at 07:36 PM the first can of Revell Chrome spray paint i got i would let it set a month down here in south Louisiana before i touched it unless i sprayed over it with it Spaz Stix. now this second can the first time i used it i chromed a pewter Bull Dog i put on my Mack. completely dry when i touched it two days later. i thought it might be the pewter, but a few days ago i sprayed some plastic tail light holder same thing dried in two days. and this is when the temp had dropped finally to 50 at night.
