LA Awesome for chrome removal

I have just used some LA Awesome to remove the chrome on some of the parts of model I am doing and notice there is a residue left on the parts surfaces where the chrome was. Is there a way to get rid of this residue like soak them for more than 24 hours or does it matter? Thanks in advance, George

The residue is likely the gloss clear coat applied to the parts before the metalizing process to produce a mirror-smooth surface.  You can try immersing the parts in the LA Awesome for more time (the plastic should not be affected), or try some other stripping liquid (like CSC or the Purple Stuff).

if its a slightly off white crystaline residue its just dried totally awesome. stick it back in for ten mins then scrub it in soapy water and it should come off. i like the totaly awesome cleaner as its safe to strip resin in unlike others

Depending on what exactly that yellow stuff is it can be difficult to remove. I use Super Clean to strip chrome and it gets the yellow stuff off about 75% of the time. If I run into something it won't touch 91% alcohol typically does the job.

The shiny yellow coating you’re referring to is the lacquer base coat used in the vacuum metalizing process.

It can occasionally be difficult to remove, but a good soaking in Super Clean will usually remove it.

I’ve soaked styrene plastic parts in Super Clean for weeks with no damage to the plastic whatsoever, so you don’t need to worry about that.

In any case, should the coating prove impenetrable, in most cases it’s not a big deal.

You can paint or re-chrome without issue.

At least I’ve never experienced any issue with it.
