Monty Posted Wednesday at 01:59 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:59 AM TTBOMK, the only game in town was the Jo-Han "NASCAR" race car (also released by AMT) and the stock Jo-Han promo. Hoping to end up with something like this:

Dave Van Posted Wednesday at 02:31 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:31 AM The JoHan 72 promo kit is the only option for a stock Gran Torino. A very nice if simple kit. All the 72 Torino parts are inter changeable. I had hoped Revell would do a 72 off their S&H 76 Torino......but doubt it now. This is a 72 MPC body on a JoHan promo interior and chassis.
SSNJim Posted Wednesday at 03:07 AM Posted Wednesday at 03:07 AM The NASCAR body is pretty much identical to the stock body in external appearance with an opening flat hood. It has all the lights, moldings and badges on it. I would assume the snap/promo body would have a closed hood and mounting posts inside, but I've never had one.
Monty Posted Wednesday at 03:16 AM Author Posted Wednesday at 03:16 AM Interesting. I knew about most of the Jo-Han stuff but had no idea MPC ever did a '72. That said, while I appreciate the info, I posted this query here to see if someone casts or 3D prints either a full kit or enough of one that would just require an engine and chassis etc to make it complete. (If you can't tell, this is my first venture into this area of our hobby, so I'm a complete novice). I'm thinking the promo would a) be pretty spendy to acquire due to rarity and b) be somewhat challenging to change into a build with opening hood and decent underhood detail (my typical build preferences). Anybody done it?
Perspect Scale Modelworks Posted Wednesday at 04:28 AM Posted Wednesday at 04:28 AM There is a file for the '72 on cults3d.com. 1

It’s nice that there’s a 3D offering of this subject. Thanks for posting it. If I can offer some constructive criticism: the roofline looks a little flat in the renderings. Also it’s too bad that they didn’t design the bumpers and grille as separate pieces. Detailing would be much more difficult this way. That said, with limited choices, sometimes you have to take whatever you can get.
mcs1056 Posted Wednesday at 06:05 PM Posted Wednesday at 06:05 PM (edited) Now why would someone still make a kit of the best-looking Torino? (I've long wanted a 1:1 '72 Torino or Ranchero) Looking at Ebay, you can build a kit: - Body: 22.00 (Seller A) - Hood: 8.75 (Seller A) - Engine: 13.95 (Seller B ) - Interior: 13.95 (Seller B ) $50-ish and you're almost there. There IS the $80 - $100 option there, also. Edited Wednesday at 06:06 PM by mcs1056 The B ) without the space turned into a smiley face thing.

Anybody done it? I’ve seen the promo and snap kit for around a C-note and a half, even below a hundred for a built snap kit. That’s not too spendy when you consider there are many 3D printed kits out there that go for about that price. Unless it's something never kitted in plastic, I’d rather get the promo/snap kit. However, if you wanted engine and suspension detail, you will have to kit bash it with another kit like the Revell ‘76 Torino perhaps. I can see the high prices on the promos, but the snap kits even surpass the price point of the promos sometimes. I don’t know why that is. The snap kits were not that rare, at least in the early to mid ‘80’s. lol! I had one, molded in yellow, which I think most were at that time. They were also molded in white, which I have acquired, from about 20 years ago. I don’t know if they molded them in any other colors, though. However, knowing Johan, it could be any color. Of all the colors they used back then, I really hated the tan/brown plastic. They used that a lot towards the end. It could be polished, but the color just looked drab. Edited 4 hours ago by mikos

No door handles on the MPC version?
