Rick Schmidt Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Just a quick build Finished it up last night. Its a Snap kit Monogram Dodge Daytona, think its an 86. Built it box stock only deviation from the box art was a black lower body to hide where I cracked it a bit removing a tab I assume went to another version
Dennis Lacy Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Nice! I wouldn't have thought there was a kit of this car. Your build brings back memories of when my Dad bought one of those for my Mom brand new, only it was the turbocharged version called the "Turbo Z" and was dark red and silver tutone. Had a turbo 4cyl and 5spd manual. I think it took my Mom about a month to hate it so it was sold to one of my cousins. This must have been in '86 or '87.
RodneyBad Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 O Crud, a Mopar I missed (don't have that one at all) looks really good in Red and Black.. That was almost one of my First cars.. Went the V-8 way instead. Great car tho..
Rick Schmidt Posted June 10, 2009 Author Posted June 10, 2009 Thanks guys Dave I never actually seen the Wraith so I dunno It just seemed natural to use the black to hide where I had cracked the body Terry I never seen one done either so I rescued this one from a stash of a member of another group It looked lonely in a sea of monster v8s lol Dennis I think this one is a Z or at least thats what the instructions mention The whole "Street Machine " thing is Smoked headlights and a weird tail light lense that I modded into two and blacked out Otherwise it appears to be a stock Turbo 4 Daytona Zuk Is it teasin ya lol ya coulda got it and threw a v8 in lol they say a company offered the stuff for a rear drive and AMT stuffed a front drive V8 in theirs lol
RodneyBad Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 (edited) Zuk Is it teasin ya lol ya coulda got it and threw a v8 in lol they say a company offered the stuff for a rear drive and AMT stuffed a front drive V8 in theirs lol It was a first car sort've of thing. They were too new and spendie so I ended up buying a Used 69 GTX Didn't stop or corner but it sure went like a bat out of Heck. And I could fix it too. I have a few of those Daytonas/ Chargers/ Omnis Just not That one. I believe that was the First year of them too. Edited June 10, 2009 by Zukiholic
Rick Schmidt Posted June 11, 2009 Author Posted June 11, 2009 I think it was 84 but then Mine could be an 84 I dunno it fit the 86 lol
Joe Handley Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Good looking build, never seen that kit before, I knew they made the standard Shelby Charger with teh 2.2/5sp combo in snap form but not this one. I think it was 84 but then Mine could be an 84 I dunno it fit the 86 lol If you're talking about the kit, IIRC the '84 Daytona's had a 4x100mm bolt pattern and from '85 through '93 used a 5x100mm (or 5 on 4") bolt pattern.
Rick Schmidt Posted June 14, 2009 Author Posted June 14, 2009 guess that solves thit can't be an 84 lol so its either an 85 or 86
Swany Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Nice build. I really like 2 tone paint jobs. This car came up in conversation at work a few weeks ago. We were talking about Triumph Daytona 675s, and someone mentioned that Dodge also had a car named Daytona. We wikipedia'd it, and learned a little about it.
Joe Handley Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 guess that solves thit can't be an 84 lol so its either an 85 or 86 Yup, most likely, but I guess it didn't take much to swap the later 5 lug stuff over to the 4 lug equipped cars, and now it sounds like it doesn't take much more to swap the more recent 5 on 4.5" stuff Minivan stuff (much bigger, stronger, and increasingly more readily available than the stock stuff) on to the old K-Chassis cars from what I've read recently too Always like the way my old '85 Lebaron GTS turbo stopped stock, can't imagine how much better it could be if the 4 wheel disks from my folks '06 Town and Country found their way onto one of those cars
Rick Schmidt Posted June 14, 2009 Author Posted June 14, 2009 Are the New Vans Still K based ??? I know our 05 sure son't resemble my old 92 I had in the hood or underside ??

It looked exactly like this: Pretty fast car... until the turbo fried. And then the clutch cable snapped. And then I sold it!!!
Joe Handley Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Are the New Vans Still K based ??? I know our 05 sure son't resemble my old 92 I had in the hood or underside ?? I doubt it, but brake parts are close enough that they'll interchange pretty easily from what I hear.
