lordairgtar Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Does anyone know this guy? Seems he got evicted out his life long home and thieves broke in and stole a lot of stuff but left the model cars. http://www.startribune.com/local/47167767....4O%20img%20src=
Custom Hearse Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Man.... That sucks! Ya gotta love Minneapolis though. They have a commercial play before the video that says come to Minneapolis and live happy, then they show a guy who is handicapped, being kicked out, boarded in, and robbed.... Makes me want to move there!

roadhawg Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 ..... I wouldn't jump to conclusions about Minneapolis. I agree. I'm a southern boy, but every time I've been to the Twin Cities area, I've felt very safe and met some really nice people. I wouldn't mind living there.....except for all that snow.....
Guest Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Snow? What snow? lol. I love it here. I live in East Bethel, 30 minutes from Minneapolis. The Twin Cities are one of the better places if you ask me. Of course, no one IS asking me, lol.
MrObsessive Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 What a SAD, SAD story!! Without knowing all the details, I hope all is well with him to this point. Having a disability and then have your home gone out from under you------I'm not sure how I'd deal with it.
george 53 Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Tommy, THAT'S what the WHITE in "Great White North" is ALL ABOUT!!! Snow Is Neet! It's COOL and ,when it's not TOO deep, it's FUN!!!!! I've lived here almost all my life, been to countries where they've NEVER HEARD of snow, an I STILL love the stuff. Ya just gotta know how to get around in it, which is sumpthin us Northerners grow up doin! (well, Most of us do!) (Oh, an YEAH, I wanna be JUS LIKE JOHN!!!!)
Harry P. Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I think Andy's right. We can't jump to conclusions based on this report... it's obviously written to make the city look bad and evil, and with sympathy towards the "victim"... but we don't know the real story. How long had the guy not been paying his mortgage? How long had the city and/or the bank warned him that if he continued to not pay, that he would be forced out? It's a sad story when a man loses his house, for whatever reason... but in this case it may have been entirely his own fault. Without all the details we can't judge...
Guest promodmerc Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I'd like to have seen the news paper print of the story instead of the highlighted web one. There are somethings that just don't make sense.
Custom Hearse Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I wouldn't jump to conclusions about Minneapolis. Been there, seen the town, bought a T-shirt from the Hard Rock Cafe.... NEVER GOING BACK....
nascarfan Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 There are crooks everywhere looking to pounce on us hard working people. Trouble is everywhere and it knows no boundries.

I guess its not so much the snow as it is the sub-zero temps that come with it. I can't get any WD-40 to my poor ol' joints! My EX-father-in-law was from Flint, and he was always laughin' at me, sayin' "You hillbillies just don't know how to drive in snow", and I'd tell HIM "Yeah, you right, but Y'ALL can't drive when its DRY...and its DRY around here a LOT more than it snows!!!"
Dingo Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Once I use to belive everything I saw on the TV news and read in the newspaper BUT now that I'm older & much more wiser I don't even take things at face value and as others had said there is always two sides to evry story and what is the other side it doesn't really say. As for the theft of property I am surprised that those scumbags if it happened didn't smash the scale models just for the fun of doing so. Dingo
Guest promodmerc Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 (edited) Here is what does not make sense to me. He says he was boarded in the house, yet when he & his friends went to to get his stuff they had to break into the house. One even went through a widow. If it was boarded up how did someone get in and steal his check book? Given the mess of the house I don't know how they would have found it. The video appears to be amateur to me. I know here in Kansas City s*** would have been edited out. Edited June 11, 2009 by promodmerc

locoengr Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 i don't know this guy from anyone, but i feel for his unfortunate situation. anyone here could be in the same position in the economy we are living currently. many, many people got in over thier heads with over extended credit, bad refinances and so forth. look how many families are without homes becuase off job layoffs. if you guy just want to poke fun or critisize this guy and his living conditions, save it or keep on with it. when it happens to you, i hope that you get the same treatment. losing the roof over your head aint nothing to joke about. Dave AMEN!!
cruzn Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Thank you! Andy. I have been to the Twin Cities and the NNL and will be back .. Had a good time.. and didn't get get a shirt from the HRC.. How can You get the flavor of a town from a nationwide restaurant chain?
roadhawg Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 .....How can You get the flavor of a town from a nationwide restaurant chain? I went to Famous Daves......I'm DEFINITELY going back!
Eshaver Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Well........ I nsaw the story reported by om Brokaw on the NOBODY BUT CLINTON NEWS , I have to wait for the real news from Michiael savage whos on the radio later on at night , Since all anyone wanted to call in about was the Nut job who shot up the Ho;ocaust meuseuem last night all I got was essently one side of the story. I'm not making a judgement here . I still want the truth and ALL OF IT TOO !!!!!!!!!! Ed Shaver
Fletch Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 It's obvious after reading the newspaper account and watching the video that there is a lot more going on here then just the surface issues that the media choose to report. Both the print and visual reports were meant to discredit those at the city and everyone else involved with Ted being portrayed as just another victim of a Government out of control. There are always 2 side to each and every story, and the truth lays somewhere in between. Ted's story is happening across the nations every day and it's brought to our attention because a single reported had an axe to grind with the city IMHO. If it weren't for the fact that Ted builds model cars would we even care one way or another? Ted's story would be just another person who got caught up in a sub-prime mortgage that couldn't pay when the bottom fell out. We'd shrug our shoulders and say he should have known better, and be glad it's not us. From the looks of the house I can understand the cities concern. Not only do they have to be concerned for the safety of the tenant but for the safety of any city employee who might have to visit the house ie: Police, Fire etc. The one question I keep asking myself is, if you were sitting in your home with the doors boarded over and you knew that someone was on the way to get you out why would you 3 weeks later be trying to find your check book? Personally, it would have been one of the things I made sure I had before leaving the first time. But, then I wasn't there and can only state what I would have done.
cruzn Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I went to Famous Daves......I'm DEFINITELY going back! We have one here In town.... Not Impressed at all... Too many better BBQ joints arond here In BBQ Capital Kansas City area.
Doughnut Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 (edited) Andy put it correctly. There's more to the story than what you have seen or read, both good and bad. I'm sure it will all play out in the courts, as it has for the past year. I'm sure nobody involved thought it would come to the boarding of the house with Ted in it. As for visiting Minneapolis, I have lived in this beautiful state all my life and will never leave. I love having all four seasons. Minnesota is constantly rated high for standard of living, our health and longevity, and high aptitude among our students. Sure, we pay a high tax rate, but you get what you pay for, and in my opinion, it's worth it. FYI - it's 70 and sunny as I'm writing this with a slight breeze. Can't get any better than that. Modelmartin Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I went to Famous Daves......I'm DEFINITELY going back! The best BBQ in town is Ted Cook's 19th hole on East 38th St. near Hiawatha in South Mpls. Famous' is OK but that is a big chain now too.
Modelmartin Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 The first thing I noticed is this guy can't make up his mind which leg he's going to limp on. When he climbs the stairs, the cane is in his left hand when he first starts up the stairs raising himself with his right leg. When they show him towards the top of the stairs, the cane is in his right hand and he's raising himself with his left leg. He keeps switching hands with it throughout the video. There are instances where he doesn't even have a cane. He better get his "limp" down before he goes before a judge and jury though. Ted's physical disabilities are very real. Do not doubt that. He has a hard time getting around. We have known Ted for a number of years. He has known that the house was going away for some time. I will not say more about Ted than that his ducks are not neatly lined up in a row. He is a pleasant and friendly guy and he will do better in an apartment where he won't have to do maintenance, etc. This is not the great tragedy or the big con or anything but what it is. A guy lost a crappy old house in a bad part of town. To those of you who have showed concern, I will pass it on to Ted and I am sure he will be grateful.
