stump Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 http://www.modelcarsmag.com/GT40Web/index.html Niiiiiiiiiiice Thank you kind Sir. Lots of goodies in there......a little intriguing the way they chose to do the motor...... 4 parts, top, bottom and 2 sides......different. and did I see the half-shafts molded as 1 unit each ??? What, no universal joints.....Oh well, something for the scratch builders...... Thanks Gregg.......I thinks I better get my order in.......PRONTO ! cheers Greg
Crazy Ed Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 (edited) Gregg That looks like it's going to be one heck of a Kit. So what are you going to do with the rest of your Weekend when you finish it!? I wonder if they plan on bringing out it's Box art partner...............? Ed Erbeck Jr. Edited June 18, 2009 by Crazy Ed

jbwelda Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 probably the only one but i am underwhelmed. and i expect it to not go together too well. maybe its just me but seems to me trumpeter has been pretty sketchy and i dont see any reason for that to change.
PatRedmond Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I'll wait a year until they're clearance priced.
Gregg Posted June 19, 2009 Author Posted June 19, 2009 Gregg’s First Impressions: GT 40 MK II The box is huge, of course. The art work is great. It’s heavy. Open the lid, holy ######! That’s a lot of parts! First thing I noticed was on the left side of the box is a smaller box with the black GT 40 MK II on all four sides, and the top. This box must contain the body. It does. Holy ######! Every piece in the small box is individually wrapped in clear plastic. The doors, hood, engine cover, everything is placed on the body, with the clear plastic on it. I should have taken a picture of it, but I was too anxious to tear off all the clear wrappings. There is even foam pieces in delicate areas to help support the body. Some of the body panels are even pre-painted aluminum, which is nice, but there are some sink holes some builders will probably like to take care of. The front and rear windows are also individually wrapped. Now, on to the rest of the box. There is a super cool smaller box with a black and white copy of the box art that has the tires, Goodyear tire decals, and foam tire inserts. There is a photoetched sheet of screens/grilles, seat belt hardware, and panels for under the front hood. The rims are pre-painted in a gold color. There are also four metal valve stems for the rims. Speaking of metal, there are springs for the suspension, springs to hold the exhaust pipes down, some small turned aluminum parts, a set of the best looking hood pins I have seen in a kit, ribbed brake duct flex hoses, tubing, wiring, and small screws to put the kit together. It does look like the suspension will work. I won’t know until I start to build it. The decals are for the black number 2 car that won the 1966 24 Hours of LeMans. So, that’s my quick look at the new Trumpeter 1/12 scale GT 40 MK II. Watch for the more on this kit soon, and we hope to see the Scale Motorsport super detail set out in the near future.
stump Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 That engine looks very toyish!! Funny.....that was my very first thought too Jason. I'm hoping it will look better in the flesh, or plastic in this case... Gregg, thanks for giving a rundown on the contents along with first impressions..... I'll definitely still spring for one....though, I may hold off a while like Pat....wait for a clearance sale..... Any ideas as to numbers they hope to produce...? My luck I'll hold off and only see 'em on ebay in 12 months time for some ridiculous amount.......
MikeMc Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 A picture is worth a thousand words. Whats a finished model worth????
novadose71 Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Whats a finished model worth???? Whatever someone's willing to pay for it.
nascarfan Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Funny.....that was my very first thought too Jason. I'm hoping it will look better in the flesh, or plastic in this case... For the size of this thing would it have been to much to ask to mold the intake and heads seperate?? That is what I hate about the revell 63 impala but that is an easy fix and cost far less. For the right price though I would like to get one though!!
Chuck Kourouklis Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 ROCKIN'! THANKS, Gregg! And I'll try not to hate ya too much for rubbin' it in... Yep, definitely coulda broken down the engine more conventionally - though I have a feeling that once it's all together, it'll present well. Prepaint will have to go, that's for sure...

Ok, Gregg - It has been a couple of weeks and lots of silence. Any more comments? Please. The silence is deafening.
Gregg Posted July 11, 2009 Author Posted July 11, 2009 Ok, Gregg - It has been a couple of weeks and lots of silence. Any more comments? Please. The silence is deafening. This weekend, I promise!!!!
stump Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 This weekend, I promise!!!! Ok.....it's Saturday down here already...... I've noticed these things popping up quite regularly on ebay of late.....starting from $145 (?) Is this not a lot cheaper than first priceing guesstimates....? I thought originally they were going to be over $200USD......?? I still haven't bid on one yet...I'm waiting for you to give us some detailed build review Gregg..
Gregg Posted July 11, 2009 Author Posted July 11, 2009 My understanding is that they are mid-200 U.S. If it's Saturday, can you tell me who won the next leg of the Tour D'France so I can call my bookie and make a bundle? :-) I would be careful of anything under 200 for the kit. But, that's my quarter (sorry, inflation, it was two-cents before Obama)
stump Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Oops..sorry Gregg. I slept through the News, so no forward update on the Tour D'France...... Yes, low to mid 200US is what I thought.....? I think postage (from China to Aus) was 35US....so that also needs to be added into it.... Still.....very very tempted......NEED to finish lots more before I think of buying more though.....
Gregg Posted July 11, 2009 Author Posted July 11, 2009 With a name like Greg, you can't go wrong (Well, I did, once, but that's another story) I didn't think about where they were coming from. That's interesting I will pass on to friend at the source. Everyone, make sure you bug me to get this out this weekend. I may have to buy another door to build this on. No laugh! My workbenches, computer desks, etc, are all doors! Cheapest things around per square inch! And they turn out nice with some stain, varnish, and a bit of elbow grease. Have to get my skills back in line for building my new house :-) Anyone want to come to Hawaii and help build the MCM Office/Hobby Heaven (can I say that?)/wine room/slot car track, and oh yeah, house for the better half ???

My workbenches, computer desks, etc, are all doors! Cheapest things around per square inch! Great idea.......may have to check my local housing recyclers.... And they turn out nice with some stain, varnish, and a bit of elbow grease. What's the rate of pay like...? I've wielded a hammer or two in my day.....
Gregg Posted July 11, 2009 Author Posted July 11, 2009 Pay? Ask Obama!!!! You guys won't work for me for love? Geeee..... I'm insulted..... Ain't it great to be able to do this banter back and forth, across miles of ocean and land, and we are all part of one big family? No pretenses, no trying to be something you are not. Although, I know, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, there is a point where everyone seriously goes WFT! I know, I spelt it wrong Didn't want to get banned by that crazy guy on that little rock in the most desolate place on the planet.... Now, where was I? Oh yeah, WAITER!!!!!!!! No idea where I'm going with this? Call on Saturday, and bend my ear.... :-) 11:38 p.m. still up and working four screens, three computers, ahhhh, life is (busy?) Sorry, I'm going off on a whatchamacallit (MIKE!!!!) hehehheehheheeheh Yes, I nuts. That's why you guys luv me. Cuz eYe 1 oF U (Don't you hate when kids type like that?) k, I pau fo now
