When did AMT do a 50 Mercury? They have a 49. Does that kit have a opening trunk? If so, it is a 49, but very nice job!

They did this 50 Merc in the 80's and was just repopped by Round 2.

Hi, whats the difference between a 49 and 50 mercury's, I know the 51 is very different but am lost on the others apart from some trim.

The dash is different. Grille, parking lights and nameplates/trim on trunk and hood are different.

50 Merc had a one-piece rear window in place of the 49's three-piece window.

BTW is the dash in the 50 Merc kit any good? Anyone have a photo?

I enjoyed it, I like a no frills kit every once in a while. I did not have any fit issues. I think some parts are too thick and it looses some of the realism. but overall it looks good. I am thinking about getting another and building as a hot rod style. Next time I need a no frills build. There is a report on it in the newest scale auto.

Painting of course took longer than the build.

It's not a '49 though. The head lights are wrong for a '49. The glass part of the light sits inside the fender opening on a '49. A '50 has the big chrome on the outside of the fender with a bigger looking bubble to the glass on the head light. You can compare it to the one they used in the movie Cobra. While that car shows an awsome 50 lic. plate, it's a '49. They do show pics of a made up '50 dash in that movie though, but I am sure it's just sitting on the bench so they could manipulate the speedo. They show only very tight shots of it.

yep and this was one of the boxes also showing it labeled a '50. The new release says '49 and I saw one at NNL North.

Hmmm, wonder if the body will fit over AMT's 49 chassis ? Is this body chopped at all or stock?

I have 3 of them, 2 orginal unbuilt, and 1 new release. The overall shape of the body is very nice, however the front turn signals are moilded into the fenders and the fron splash apron has two humps to facilitate the snap instalation of the bumper. The drip rail is poorly defined, and on mine part of it was missing along with some of the rear window trim. The chrome trim just under the windows is almost non-existent. I did not like the chassis at all, and the ride height was way too high. The interior is a blob of plastic, and the dash, which is a '49 and not a '50, is poorly defined. That being said, mine is in perpetual mock-up correcting these flaws. It looks like it will be pretty nice when done, I just wasnt expecting all of these flaws. Your build is absolutely excellnt, Russell. Being in the middle of mine, I am amazed at how well yours turned out. Great job!
