MikeMc Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Totally over the top as usual!!!!! How or where is the gas door/filler located????
Bernard Kron Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 The rear 3/4 view is exceptional with those great talights, the flow of the finders onto the tailgate and rolled pan, and that really nice tailgate. Not to say that it doesn't look spot on from every other angle. The truck looks totally solid and right sitting on its wheels. Even the bed has now integrated totally into the cab area. I'm looking forward to seeing all the nice little chassis and interior details, and the paint...
Raul_Perez Posted September 11, 2009 Author Posted September 11, 2009 (edited) Totally over the top as usual!!!!! How or where is the gas door/filler located???? Thanks, Mike!! I still need to cut a gas door into the right rear fender. I didn't like the look or location of the one that was on the stock bed from the '91 Chevy pickup, so it got filled in... After looking at the pictures, I may raise the bottom edge of the tail lights to line up with the bottom edge of the tailgate...your thoughts??? Later, Edited September 11, 2009 by Raul_Perez
Custom Hearse Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Excuse me a second while I pick my jaw up from the floor! That is totally awesome Raul! Have you thought about putting some half round plastic strip on the tailgate to break it up a little, kinda like the nomad tailgates? Anywhoo.... I like! BIG TIME!!!!
Bernard Kron Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 ...After looking at the pictures, I may raise the bottom edge of the tail lights to line up with the bottom edge of the tailgate...your thoughts??? Looking at the rear view I could see how raising the bottom edge of the tailights a bit might improve the proportion of the tailights a bit, but I would probably not raise the lower edge all the way to the tailgate's bottom but just up to where the fender wraps around into the rear pan which is just slightly below the tailgate..
Raul_Perez Posted September 11, 2009 Author Posted September 11, 2009 Excuse me a second while I pick my jaw up from the floor! That is totally awesome Raul! Have you thought about putting some half round plastic strip on the tailgate to break it up a little, kinda like the nomad tailgates? Anywhoo.... I like! BIG TIME!!!! Thanks!! I like your idea for the tailgate, but for this build I want the bed height, (including the tailgate), to look as tall as possible. I think that will help offset the tall appearance of the cab. Exactly!! I brought the bottom of the taillights up to the top edge of the bumper, (where it meets the tailgate). Great minds think alike?? After we talked, I also reworked the hood scoop a "little bit". Actually, I cut out the entire thing and started over!! I made it just a bit wider, but to make it more pornounced, (by making the opening taller), I made the bottom portion set deeper into the hood. This also made the sides of the opening more pronounced. I'll post a few pics when I get home. With a bit of putty and another coat of primer, this one will soon be ready for paint!! Later,

It'll be a while before Rex needs to make room for this one!! Yeah, pizza sounds GREAT!! I'll call you Monday after I check my schedule. Later,
Raul_Perez Posted September 22, 2009 Author Posted September 22, 2009 I finally got around to spraying a bit of red on the body this afternoon. This is just a base coat to find any small areas that still need a bit of cleanup and fitting. Here you can see how I put a spline in the center of the hood scoop to match the design of the split windshield. Since the chassis is now fitted to the body, this is the final stance and rake. One of the significant diferences between this build and the one I did 15 years ago is the use of a newer bed. With the newer styled bed, I also went with a more stylized tail light design. Here's a shot from the rear of the older one with the stock bed box. There's still a lot of work to be done on this one, but overall I'm pretty pleased with how its coming along. I'll post a few pics of the chassis once I get the splices cleaned up and get a bit of paint on it. Later,
charlie8575 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Nice rigs. I'm usually not a rod/custom type, but I can appreciate something that was done nicely. That '50 looks great. I could see a real one like that on the road. Charlie Larkin
E St. Kruiser50 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Hey Raul Glad you didn't "chop the top", as it has a sort of CONCEPT FROM THE FACTORY LOOK, which I like . It's a full custom, but you've used very elegant styling cues and great details to achieve a "SUBTLE", BUT A VERY EFFECTIVE, and FLOWING STYLING STATEMENT. VERY NICE RAUL . ( The artist always shows through )

( The artist always shows through ) Thanks, Dave!! Yes, this really was an excercise in styling for me. There won't be a lot of detail or mini photo-etched goodies on this one...just a few simple design changes to give it a more modern appearance. More than likely the bed cover will also be glued in place on this one. No need to hinge the lid only show show that there's nothing in the back... Between the two of us, we've burned through a few of those Corvette kits to come up with some modernized spin on some other vehicle. Later,
Randy Kern Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Raul, that truck is looking really cool in color! Those tail lights have a sort of Cadillac look to them, and fit in perfectly. Can't wait to see it done.

Bernard Kron Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Great styling Raul. The shiny paint really shows off the details, flow and proportion. The redo on the hood scoop paid off big time. Nice and crisp and adds an extra dimension to the front end. That rear 3/4 view just keeps getting better and better. The little lift on the taillight openings are perfect. Can't wait to see this thing with more details. People often build models of great 1:1's, but this will be one case where someone really needs to build a 1:1 of this classy custom!

Yeah...my first pass at the hood scoop was too small for this big truck hood, even after it was pie cut. It was a direct transplant from the '06 Z06 Vette with only a minor tweaking of the support bars. The new design carries the same concept, but is a bit deeper and the upper peak better follows the shape of the rear edge of the hood. Yes, I like the smaller size of the tail lights much better now. Until my boys are finished with college, (and the subsequent, routine draining of my wallet), I can only afford to build in the small scale world. Later,
Alyn Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Come on, Raul. we need a fix. Got some more progess shots to share??? I was just reviewing your body work with the red basecoat. Each time I see this truck, I appreciate the styling more and more. Maybe you're smarter than me and actually let your putty shrink down before the final paint job. That mistake has caught me a time or two.
