Foxer Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Beautiful plank job! The wood looks fantastic!
1320wayne Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Excellent work on both. The boat finish looks fantastic.
Dr. Cranky Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am loving the way this one is already turning out. Beautiful. Keep it going, please . . .
Smart-Resins Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 That is absolutly beautiful. I have a different boat I had replaced some of the fake wood. But stalled on it because I just can not decide on a color. Nothing is better on a boat then wood!! LOL. I admire yours and the work. Question, what is that white stuff on it that you used to fill in the gaps? Thanks. Jody
James Flowers Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 That boat is wonderful. Looks so much like real hull. That is a great start on the car. Keep us up to date on this.
N~8~Ball Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Vary nice craftsmanship on both of them!! I can't wait to see them completed. Please do post some photos. Take care Nate
Jairus Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Well now! We have a new "Real Craftsman" on the forum! Way cool. Torgny, I like what you have done so far. I have/had the same project in the works but lost steam last year working on the boat. Love YOUR boat but wonder why you cut out the resin sides out of the car when the real car didn't even have real wood there. That panel was just a decal back in 1953. The real wood was an Ash framework bolted on with chrome head bolts! 1954 saw the frame replaced by painted fiberglass thus the end of the Woody era, but the Mahogany panel starting in 1950 till..... now were always decals. Scale Equipment makes some beautiful decals for this very purpose. At any rate, I like the wood and as Jody says, there is nothing better than wood than wood! P.S. I did the master for that resin wagon, provided it came from Jimmy Flintstone.
made007 Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 theres nothing like wood.................thats my last name..... in spanish...LOL
nts Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 (edited) awesome wood work on the boat! did you use veneer and what did you glue it with? i'm curious too about the white you used on the front deck too. Dave Well , the wood is mahoganyveneer normaly used for modeltrain dioramabuilding, the glue is Crazy Glue (or any fast glue will do). The white thing is regular white Tamiya plaster.About the car(yes it is a Jimmy cast) and woodsides, this i did just to get the same woodcolor as on the boat and last but not least for the challange of doing it. More pictures soooooon /Torgny Sweden. Ps. If there is something you don´t understand ,please ask again. (my english is not so good) Edited September 8, 2009 by nts
Smart-Resins Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Thank you very much for the reply. I did not know Tamiya had a putty! LOL.I am wondering if any other types/ brands would work for filling. Being a wood worker, I know of a few fillers or quick wood or even epoxies that might work, and may be cheaper for the amount? I have a roll of maple veneer with some mohagany stain. I had taken a two seat boat with 4 banger inline motor and had converted it to a single seat spead boat and looking at putting in a Hemi V drive system. I had made veneer inserts for the wood panels on top, but again was lost to the paint scheme for the boat. You have really inspired me and I hope you do not take offense if I decide to do the entire boat in wood veneer now. Thank you very much!! Jody
nts Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 the wood work is very impressive! i love old wood boats as well so i really like this project! a fiberglass boat has nothing on the beauty of a wood hulled boat Tamiya does offer both white and grey putty for models. i never would have thought to use it as the white between the boards, but as shown it's perfect! Dave The only varning i can give you is that the clear you put on top of it don´t have to be to strong, then maby the putty floats away out on the wood. Mine was for woodenfloors , it has hardener in it and it is waterbased. Jody, i am very proud that i inspired you to start up your boatbuild again, it is just that way these forums have to work....to make people build more..and more...and more............ Can´t be here, must build boat......Torgny Sweden
Sixties Sam Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Torgny, that boat is really beautiful! Wow! The 53 Ford is looking good, too! That will be a great combination! Sam

Fletch Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Torgny, the craftsmanship you've brought to this build is phenomenal. I honestly, have never given the Hemi-Hydro anything more then a passing glance. After see what you've accomplished with these crazy woodworking skills you have, I'll never look at the kit as "that's nice" ever again. Keep going you've got us all on the edge of our seats.
Tony T Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Fantastic craftsmanship! The boat looks great, and the woodie wagon, too. I'll be looking forward to seeing the finished models. Well done!

tim boyd Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 This projekt is DONE.....look for pictures UNDER GLASS. Torgny Torgny....this is an incredible project. I can't believe the way you wrapped the wood around the edgesof the hull....particularly along the rear. The dual Cadillac approach is very inventive. Can't wait to see the finished project. TIM BOYD
Roggan Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Now I've seen it in real life. It's even nicer than the pictures show. Good work Torgny.
