FujimiLover Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 They said the same exact BS about 2001, and we survived it. I believe in Gene Rodenberry's dream and I can see a lot of that happening. Not talking so much about the amazing Star-Trek technology, but about us as human's. Care to share your insight on 2012?
Jairus Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 That is when I will finally finish a model. I think... pretty sure.
B_rad88 Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Care to share your insight on 2012? wanna know what i think or wanna know whats going to happen? whats going to happen: white people well be a minority in this country! ugh! i am not trying to sound racist, but i kinda think its messed up! what i think: america will be a third world country, we are going down hill very fast!
James Flowers Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 We will be living in the same screwed up world we live in now. Maybe worse than now though.

B_rad88 Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 ok, i understand! but i was just stating what i have read/heard/seen on the internet/radio/tv! its all over the place. and i never siad i am blaming the media, i said thats where i heard this info from. and i am also stating my very own observations. i can step outside and look a round and see 7 spanish people to 1 white person. but.... if i had steped on toes or pulled any hairs with my statments, i am very sorry for that!
FujimiLover Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 Anybody else believe in Gene Roddenberry? That one day, greed, poverty, diseases, lust for power and all that he mentioned in Star-Trek will be a thing of the past?
old-hermit Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 (edited) Anybody else believe in Gene Roddenberry? That one day, greed, poverty, diseases, lust for power and all that he mentioned in Star-Trek will be a thing of the past? Nope, if you put two or more people togther before long there will be an argument. You want proof ? Read the above posts. As for 2012, we ain't got long to wait huh ? FujimiLover Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 (edited) I want a Holodeck and a replicator! On a serious note: I think several thing's will happen. One, an outside threat will cause mankind to merge together as one race, the human-race. We may not develop warp-drive, or massive star-ships to take us to other worlds, but we may some how find way's to learn more about what's out there. If we live long enough, say another 1,000 years, then it's possible technology will advance so greatly that we can travel longer distances perhaps even with warp-drive or similar technology. Think of Star Trek "First Contact" We have the power to save our selves as well as destroy our selves. I believe the power to save our selves from an outside threat is what will bring us all closer together. No, I'm not talking about Independence Day, talking about astroids, meteor's and such. We will not be alone in the universe as soon as we realize we have each other. Edited September 8, 2009 by FujimiLover
purplehornies Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Forget 2012. I'm waiting for Comet Hale-Bop to come back and "collect" all of us.
FujimiLover Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 Wonderful thoughts to be sure, but given how we humans are, not likely to ever happen. BTW Marc, I know your thoughts regarding Star Trek weren't about the technology, but I still want a matter transporter, or whatever it was called that allowed them to be moved from the Enterprsie to whatever planet Kirk wanted to find the women on & back to the ship!!!! Yes, but if you ever watch Star-Trek, there has always been a handful of bad people out there, even us human's. So, while the majority of us will be on that same wave-length, there will always be a few bad apples.
Bernard Kron Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 2012 is pretty nearby. I guess things'll be pretty much as they are now. With regard to Rodenberry's views, I've always felt that things happen much later than we would want them to (probably the 2012 thing in his case) and, once we're disappointed, much sooner than we come to expect. So maybe some of the pain and confusion in the air now will have worked itself out by then. But the end of mankind's baser instincts, I'm afraid not... But I sure do hope I'm still building and that my skills have moved along so I can realize the things bouncing around in my head!
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 What does Gene Roddenberry have to do with the 2012 scenario ? Nothing. As for the 2012 doomsday prediction. It concerns me a bit. At no time in history have so many different cultures had the same thing in them. The Mayan, Chinese,English,French, Indian, and American Indian. And the fact that there will be an alignment of the solar system with the sun in the center of the galaxy on 12/12/21. Scientists have been pondering this for some yrs now and they can't say what will happen. Their probable guess is that the increased solar flairs could cause the earth to get so hot that nothing would survive. In any case, if it happens you won't have to worry about it cause you'll be dead soon after. Another thing is there's an internet information program that's been gathering information to predict up coming trends for several yrs now with a lot of accuracy but it can't predict anything past 2012. I'm old and not afraid to die but I'm really concerned about my grandsons. I prey nothing happens, but if it does it won't surprise me.

Not talking so much about the amazing Star-Trek technology, but about us as human's. Care to share your insight on 2012? You can't be serious??!! Star Trek? Seriously??? Uh, that's a lame old TV show and a series of sci-fi movies. They have nothing to do with reality. As long as human beings in 2012 are still who and what they are now, absolutely nothing will have changed. We haven't learned to get along for the past 2,000 years. What would change in just three more years?
FujimiLover Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 Roddenberry certainly has nothing to do with 2012 at all. I was just stating that I don't believe in "predictions" as such. And what's so special about the year 2012? Just because planets and the sun line up? I was using Roddenberry as more of a positive mood setter than depressing 2012 sayers. In order for thing's to improve the way we'd like, I'm afraid it will have to hit rock bottom first. Don't be so negative my friends, life will prevail! We will go on! Think of Morgan Freeman's speech in Deep Impact.
roadhawg Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Forget 2012. I'm waiting for Comet Hale-Bop to come back and "collect" all of us. Yeah, but according to that Heavens Gate cult, you gotta be castrated in order to go, so that pretty much rules me out. Anyway....things are only going to get worse from here on out. Thats whats predicted in the Bible, and to me, thats a little more important than Gene Roddenberry.
FujimiLover Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 Oh you people are so negative! LOL! Let's continue building cars and having fun heh?
Harry P. Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Ok, obviously I'm missing something here. What is so special about 2012?

We haven't learned to get along for the past 2,000 years. What would change in just three more years? Harry, I'm surprised at yea. Yes there sci-fi, no they have nothing to do with reality. What I'm talking about is Gene Roddenberry's dream about mankind. Not talking about starships, transporter devices, and what not. Pay attention to what's behind the sci-fi and drama. Pay attention to Gene's messages. is nobody listening to me? Oh well, to each his own.
FujimiLover Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 Ok, obviously I'm missing something here. What is so special about 2012? There really is nothing special about 2012. As I said in my first post, it's the same garbage they said about 2001. Yea thing's are bad, yea thing's might get worse, but end of the world? I don't beleive that.

Aaronw Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 meh, 2112 was a better album, but not as good as Moving Pictures.
FujimiLover Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 Or how about Bruce Willis's movie The 5th Element? What year was that supposed to be?
Harold Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Yeah, well every generation thinks they're witnessing the end of the world. As for this little fantasy, this was cooked up by a culture that A; Sacrificed virgins to ensure a good growing season and B: Never figured out what the wheel was. I still laugh when I think back to '99 and all the moronic Y2K hysteria that was fomented by a media having a slow news year (which is why I become skeptical about any 'crisis' like the sine flu). Guess what? The world will still be here in 2012 and beyond (so you guys don't have to feel any pressure to finish that killer model before it's lights out), and we'll still be disfiguring plastic into shapes it was never intended to have.
