miatamadman Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Here you go guys ! Even though it's a diecast, I just HAD to build this. As the saying goes..."Beggars can't be choosy" This here, is the new 1/25th scale Diplomat by Motormax stripped, repainted and detailed to my standards. For my first build of this kit, I new I had to build a mid 80's cruiser from Prince Georges County, MD to go along with the rest of my PG collection. Anyway, right out of the box, this model needed some work to make it look as though it was not a toy. I first stripped the paint, block sanded the body and filled in all of the casting flaws. I also had to fill in the 2 holes in the roof with JB Weld, drilled a hole in the A-pillar for the spotlight handle and added a strip of plastic to the back of the hood to correct the way out of scale gap. Finally, I cut away the ledge that the windshield rested on. After all the body work, the body was primed then painted with Duplicolor white and clear coated. The decals were obtained from Pursuit Plastics years ago. I built the roof lights using a combination of parts from the Revell Cop Out Funny Car, Johan Fury Police Car and AMT Alf Pumper.

If you look closely at my pic, you'll notice that the white paint is peeling off the doors above the green stripe. The factory paint... I wasn't able to run the a/c and run at high speed for fear the thing would overheat. The county I worked for was the size of Rhode Island with lots of agriculture (read: orange groves). We did lots of high speed driving. And lots of sweating. When I traded up for a 1990 Caprice, I transfered all my equipment over. What had stuffed the Dip's trunk barely covered half of the Caprice's. When I picked up the car, I noticed three hole plugs in the roof. I asked the shop guys about this and was told thats where the rotator used to be bolted!!! Think of this: Now this was 1993, not the seventies. They were finally moving into the later part of the century. Heck, they had just recently gotten portable radios for the deputies... But they DO look like police cars. Of course, this is the same department that shot a bad guy over 100 times after he killed two deputies and a K9. When they asked the sheriff (my former major) why they shot him so may times, his reply was "We'd have shot him more, but we ran out of ammo." Edited December 23, 2009 by Murphy's Law

We used the bigger cars, Newports, Fury's, Impalas, Diplomats as "lock ups" had the cages in them. We had one Diplomat, called it "The Ghost", freakin' car was haunted. You'd be driving down the street and the electric door locks would just start locking and unlocking by themselves. Headlights would wigwag by themselves, domelight would turn on and off, etc etc. I was happy when that one was finally totalled, but it took two major accidents to do it!

I looked those over at the last Toy Show I was at but passed because I thought they would need a lot of work to make a decent model out them, IMHO. You made it look easy. Steve
