cruz Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Finally decided on something. I have always loved those '66 Goats and must have one in my stable!! I am using the Revell kit for this! Hosted on Fotki I am going for something like this but the color I chose from dupli-color came out a bit brighter than this. I still like it so I will leave it as is!!! Hosted on Fotki I am going factory stock so I am happy to own the best redlines ever made for this type of car in that era. Of course, I am talking about the ones Norm does, who else??? Thanks again Norm!!! They are phenomenal!!! Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
cruz Posted October 7, 2009 Author Posted October 7, 2009 I rarely paint my cars way before I start putting them together but since I will not be doing so much test fitting I will not worry too much, there will not be a lot of scratch building on this project anyway. I will also leave the wetsanding, polishing and waxing for the end, this way I will not worry about handling the painted body during the building process. The paint looks good in these pictures but believe me, there is a lot of wetsanding ahead of me to really make it stand out. Hope you guys like it!!! Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki In the last picture you can see the difference in color when photographed next to the can, not very noticeable but a liitle different in person....
kyledr330 Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Love the 66' GTO's. Love that blue on this car, what is the name of that Dupli-color?
Smart-Resins Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Looks very nice!! I have this same kit! I am going to build the "Tin Indian" out of mine. Looks like a nice kit! Jody
Jeff Johnston Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 NOrm, definitely makes the best red wall and white walls IMHO. I like the hard resin. nice paint...
cruz Posted October 7, 2009 Author Posted October 7, 2009 Love the 66' GTO's. Love that blue on this car, what is the name of that Dupli-color?I will have to get back to you on that color.....
meaneyme Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 I will certainly be following this one, the color is beautiful man, don't even think about changing it. Those resin tires really are awesome, much better than using those stupid kit decals on the tires.
mcandela Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Marcos, I built one of those a couple of years back. Paint and clear were from Duplicolor also. Very nice kit by revell. See ya, Mike.
cruz Posted October 7, 2009 Author Posted October 7, 2009 Mikey, good to hear from you, yours came out gorgeous man, thanks for posting it. Love the cragars on it!!!! Now you know why I decided to put this one together!!
Raul_Perez Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 The color looks GREAT, Marcos!! I can't wait to see more pics!! Later,
charlie8575 Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 That's not too far off from code P Barrier Blue, actually. Looks great and I'll look forward to seeing the end results. Charlie Larkin
Greg Cullinan Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Imo stock is a great way to go. Color is nice also. Is there a website to purchase those tires? Thanks
cruz Posted October 12, 2009 Author Posted October 12, 2009 Imo stock is a great way to go. Color is nice also. Is there a website to purchase those tires? ThanksSorry, Norm doesn't have a website but you can call him at this number for your orders, I am sure he will also supply you with his latest "must have" catalogue!!! (410-768-3648)
cotto Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 You say you need to rub this out? I guess you are a perfectionist, I would have left it as is. That color is really awesome, in my opinion better than the one in the first photo at the top of the thread. Can't wait to see this one done. Are you going with a white interior? If so, what shade of white are you using? I have seen a lot of guys doing the white interiors on this cars and usually they go with a pure white, I don't think it's the correct shade.

For the interior, I am going with Tamiya's Insignia White, in my opinion it's the perfect shade of white, Something similar to the interior color I used on my Starliner pictured below. Hosted on Fotki If you look closely, the white wall tires are more of a pure white and when you compare them in this photo to the interior color you can notice is quite different. By the way, the roof is pearl white. I also want to add that if you want your white walls to have a slight weary, older look to them you can also go with this Tamiya color, it looks pretty convincing!
cruz Posted October 17, 2009 Author Posted October 17, 2009 I just couldn't help the temptation of waiting to polish this thing and guess what, my flesh is weak I will need to order a Photo-etch detail set of this kit to make it more complete and of course, the BMF is also on the to-do list!!! Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Once completed, I will take some outdoor pictures, weather these days in the Mid-Atlantic region has been pretty nasty.....
meaneyme Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 This thing is super smooth Cruz, looks great. Do you sell that Merc in the background? I am VERY interested! Didn't see that one when I visited your house.

Didn't see that one when I visited your house.Sorry Kevin, I just sold the Merc last week, the reason you didn't see it was because I had it displayed at a local Hobby Shop and decided to pick it up yesterday. I have 2 more unbuilt, just PM me and I'll see what we can come up with, I don't want to bog down this thread for this purpose!
cruz Posted October 29, 2009 Author Posted October 29, 2009 I got the "I need to put some time on my GTO build" flu and decided to call in sick to work today, finished doing most of the engine and chassis work, next I will be foiling the body. I was going to do a bit of weathering on the chassis and engine but decided to leave it as is, I mean, my dream is to some day restore a muscle car and treat it as a trailer queen!! Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Now this rolling stock will look good when I take it to Barrett Jackson for auctioning!!!!
cotto Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Darn it Cruz, that is so clean man, just the way those Barrett Jackson cars do look!
shucky Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 GTO is looking great! Did you use Duplicolor clear? If so, what did you use to polish it? I noticed using DC clear it goes on really nice and smooth, but dries to a semi-gloss appearance. Cant wait to see this one finished, keep up the great work!

Cant wait to see this one finished, keep up the great work! Thanks Mike, I use Odds and Ends clear, WalMart used to sell it but not anymore, I happen to still have a few cans left. It's very similar to the Plasti-Kote clear and it's made by Valspar. I use the Micro-Mesh cloths to wetsand and polish my finishes, I like to use Maguiar's Cleaner Wax when I am done with the polishing cloths. This product eliminates all the scratches left by the cloths. I also like to use a quality chamois to remove the wax, works a lot better than flannel or cotton which can leave scratches after you finish waxing.
meaneyme Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Cruz!! What are you doing using Franklin Mint Models to take credit for this GTO? I purchased a F/M GTO last month and the chassis looks identical to that one!
kopperkart Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 (edited) Thanks for posting the details on your clean GTO. The redlines are perfect on any Goat. Edited October 31, 2009 by kopperkart
